3 year old bed wetting

Any suggestions on how to get my 3 year old boy dry at nights? He was dry through the night for a very long time then suddenly he started wetting the bed every night?

Would just check with health visitor or GP to exclude any health reason, but this is really normal. It’s what Dry Nights (other brands available Grin) were invented for.
Has he changed his routine, started nursery, more tired for some reason? Both of ours (girl and boy) did the same, as did many friends, around the same age and it worked itself out within a few months. Worse thing you can do is make a big deal of it.

nothing you can do. being dry at night is driven by a hormone and it can be as late as 8 yo until dc is dry at night.

you can try go
iving him loads to drink during the day, but stopping one hour before bedtime. also going to the toilet twice (once before, once after brushing teeth) can help a bit.

My friends eldest did this. Was dry very young and then suddenly started getting wet again. This carried on for a few years OP, sorry.
He would be absolutely soaking, but slept so deeply he never knew! He just grew out of it. It’s quite normal, especially for boys to be wet at night up to 9yo, and beyond.
One of mine wasn’t dry at all during nights until 9yo.

Thank you for all your advice..Oh great! More sleepless nights for me! Would you recommend waking him up before I go to sleep to try him on the toilet or best to leave him?

3?? Just put him back in pull ups and try again when he’s five. My 7yo still wets occasionally

aprillloyd636 · 09/04/2019 21:45

He recently started nursery and I suppose when thinking about it that’s when it started, trouble with him he is so busy and on the go he doesn’t like stopping during the day to go to the toilet until he is absolutely bursting, I’ve revently tried prompting him more during the day to go to the toilet and last night he went three times before bed and still managed to wet the bed, he goes into such a deep sleep he doesn’t naturally wake up to go.. only when it’s hapoened and he is wet and freezing cold is when he wakes..

Really, no need for you to lose sleep over it, it’s perfectly normal. I wouldn’t wake him, unless you want a tired boy, grumpy at being disturbed.
Pull ups, a waterproof sheet just for your peace of mind (the washable, quilted ones intended for the elderly are brilliant) you’ll both be properly rested and he’ll stop in his own good time.

pull ups are your friend Smile
try again without once he's dry most nights.

aprillloyd636 · 09/04/2019 21:52

That’s actually quite good, weirdly, that he can hold it that long I mean. My nephew was wetting at 10 but that was because he could barely hold any liquid, there was a problem with his bladder and he had to be trained to hold on over quite a long period. Your boy obviously has no problem with capacity.
He won’t be wet and cold in pull ups, they’re as dry as nappies. Not sure what your circumstances are but they may be available on prescription (that’s a guess, someone else might know for sure).

Groovee · 09/04/2019 21:54

I stuck with pull ups until Ds was dry at night. I also cut back on black currant diluting juices as these can irritate the bladder.

Langrish · 09/04/2019 22:01

Just looked it up, out of curiosity and understandably I guess there are very particular circumstances for prescriptions so it’s unlikely, as night wetting at 3 is so common.
You’ll only need 1 pair of pull ups each night though, they’re very efficient and probably less costly than constant laundry.
Good luck, it won’t last forever.

Thank you a lot appreciate your help and suggestions I wanted to avoid nappies / pull ups if possible will see how he goes over the next week and decide what to do then! 😊
