DS is very long and at 11 weeks his Moses basket is at full capacity! It's a shnuggle basket too so larger than average!

Just wondering if anyone had been in the same position, if so where did you put baby down for a nap in the day?

My long 4 1/2 month old still fits in hers

Pandasarecute · 09/04/2019 20:57

Mine slept in the cot with a monitor for day time naps from 2 months, to be honest she slept better and for longer than when downstairs. I just checked on her lots!

bitchfromhell · 09/04/2019 21:11

My 98th centile dc loved his Moses basket and stayed in it for 8 weeks but should have probably gone straight into his cot from hospital. At 12 weeks he's still in his pram but next week he's going to have to go in the pushchair. I'm not happy about him being forward facing but he needs the use of his arms! Hmm
For naps he exclusively uses mummy! Or very occasionally his bouncy chair.

I never had a moses basket for any of my DC, they slept in a cot, carrycot or pram from day 1

RandomMess · 09/04/2019 21:16

Mine slept in the pram (coach built) or cot.

DC2 was hugely tall and was much happier stretching out in cot at 2 weeks Confused the next DC were nearly as big so did a few weeks of the Moses basket in the cot at most.

DinosApple · 09/04/2019 21:34

Mine were pretty average sized to small and were out by 8 weeks.

Second DC could roll unintentionally from a few weeks so wasn't safe. Heck, she got herself on her side as a newborn in the goldfish bowl at the hospital like a badly balanced weeble.

Redskyandrainbows67 · 09/04/2019 22:44

You will need a baby monitor at some point so but one now

Use the pram carry cot on floor for downstairs naps

Redskyandrainbows67 · 09/04/2019 22:44

Buy not but

Kokeshi123 · 10/04/2019 02:56

Mine go in the cot from the first day from the hospital (although we live in a flat). If you are nervous about distance, you could put a travel cot on the ground floor, but honestly, I think a cot in a separate room is fine.

Nnnnnineteen · 10/04/2019 07:03

Mine didn't outgrow the Moses basket but I got fed up with having it in the living room so put her in her cot. I am clearly in a minority but never had a pram.

NicoAndTheNiners · 10/04/2019 07:07

I never bothered with a Moses basket as my friend told me they really only last a few weeks. Used the cot for naps from the beginning.

NewAccount270219 · 10/04/2019 07:08

I think how long a baby is happy in a Moses basket depends on how they sleep as much as their size. DS slept with his arms out in a sort of 'look at my guns' pose, so he started hitting the side of the basket and waking himself quite early - maybe around 8 weeks? A friend's baby was still in here at 5 months and she was smaller than DS but not by that much - the difference is she actively liked sleeping sort of scrunched up and was much more still in her sleep than DS.

CherryPavlova · 10/04/2019 07:14

Mine never had a Moses basket save it seemed like a waste. When very tiny, they slept in the prom or in a sling on me or on a blanket on the floor. Occasionally a laundry basket. Often in their car seat, in the car when doing the nursery drop. There used to be supermarket trollies which took a car seat too - they slept there sometimes.
If I was really lucky, I’d pop them in beside me for a delicious long nap together. Unfortunately a rare event after the first.

DobbysLeftSock · 10/04/2019 07:16

Both mine only got about 4 weeks use of their moses basket. Most day time naps were on me anyway, but sometimes they would sleep in their bouncy chair or in the pram.

OP, are you breastfeeding? If so, try to nail feeding while lying down in bed. Baby can fall asleep feeding while lying on the mattress and you can then slip away once they are asleep (so long as baby is not yet rolling!).

Also, video baby monitor. Didn't have one for dd1 but got one for dd2 and love it!

SoyDora · 10/04/2019 07:27

Yeah DD1 was in her Moses basket until 5 months but she preferred sleeping scrunched up. I tried many times to put her in a cot but she didn’t like it at all and woke herself up every sleep cycle. I had to go cold turkey and give the Moses basket away to someone!

OffToBedhampton · 10/04/2019 07:34

I too had long babies- DS1 lasted 5 weeks in his Moses basket before going in his upstairs cot. (If you have a c section it's hard to carry the frame up down the stairs anyway for night/day). Mine slept in his bouncy lay back chair, on playmat, on me or in baby sling when downstairs.

But tbh by second DC who wasnt quite as long or flailing of arms and legs as my boy, I couldn't use Moses basket downstairs due to very active toddler who'd interfere with sleeping baby or pile toys in with her so she went upstairs into her cot using with baby monitor if not sleeping somewhere safe that I could watch. I used travel cot set up in one room quite a bit but kept toddler away so he didn't climb in with her. It's all a blur though!

stucknoue · 10/04/2019 07:49

Dd was tiny so can't help, she slept in the carry cot of her pram until 7 months day and night.

BlackInk · 10/04/2019 09:57

Moses baskets are only safe OP until baby begins to roll and wriggle around, but most babies have outgrown them within a couple of months.

My DC were big/long outgrew the moses basket within about 6 weeks. They weren't big on napping and usually fell asleep travelling in the car or pushchair. On the rare occasions that I put them down to nap at home I put them upstairs in the cot (in our room, where they slept at night) and used a monitor. They only ever slept for 20 minutes at a time in the day, so I never worried about them.

If you really don't want your baby out of sight, could you put him to sleep on a play mat or blanket on the floor... although this will only be safe until he starts moving around.

Flicketyflack · 10/04/2019 10:01

Both my two grew out within six weeks so we put them for a nap in their cot. Smile

Feb2018mumma · 10/04/2019 10:07

We had a Moses basket then a poddle pod then a toddle pod, it's like a pillow bed that is perfect for naps when you are still able to watch them but need a comfy bed! Think the poddle pod was up to 6 months and only cost about £20 so not too bad?
