Tesco Stockwell brand - great!

We're off on holiday in the Autumn so trying to shave money off usual weekly expenses to add to spending money. We're too rural for home delivery and our only supermarket is Tesco (not the cheapest, I know)!

I've started to try a few things from their value Stockwell brand and - oh my goodness - it is great.

So far we've had:

the tinned baked beans and spaghetti - thick sauce and doesn't taste metallic or watery like their old value tins did. Actually can't taste the difference between this and pricier brands.

Multipack of crisps - Did a blind test with DD today and she couldn't tell apart these from Walkers. Only tried the cheese and onion so far mind you. But very well flavoured and good crunch. Their value ones used to have no flavour at all.

This week have bought 3x tins of soup: chicken, veg and tomato. We'll try them at some point over the weekend and report back.

Very pleased with this brand and just thought I'd share in case anyone else is wishing to reduce their tesco shopping bill a bit.

I plan to buy a few different things from the range each week so can report back if yay or nay.

Have also tried a few things from their other budget brands in Tesco: Molly's, Hearty Food Co., Grower's Harvest. Not been too impressed though.

Creamfields has been okay. We like their big block of cheddar.

I agree it's good stuff

Try Stockwell marmalade. OMG it knocks spots off their regular brand.

Also not impressed with Molly's but the rest are ok. Agree with the Creamfields cheddar, in fact I prefer it to Cathedral City1

I'm sure it's just repackaging of their value stuff but a lot is very good. The packaging looks better this way.

Not so new then, fascinating fact alert 😀

Tesco started in 1919, when Jack Cohen started selling surplus groceries from a market stall in Hackney.

The Tesco brand didn't appear until 1924, when Jack purchased a shipment of tea from Thomas Edward Stockwell, and made the new labels by using the initials of the supplier (TES) and the first two letters of his surname (CO), forming TESCO.
