I'm worried I've given baby DS cows milk

This morning I was in a massive rush. DD (4) had a 40 minute tantrum so we were running late for school and was a bit frazzled as DS was also crying. he's 6 months and has CMPA (cows milk protein allergy) and has special allergy formula. I made all our breakfasts together and made a bottle of his formula to pour over his weetabix then did cows milk for mine and dds. he ate lots of the weetabix and I thought jt that was weird because he usually loses interest after 3 spoonfuls.

This morning since 9am he has cried non stop. really screaming and in pain. he's all flushed and blotchy and red, including on his arms. the only time he's stopped is when I took him out in the car for a drive. I'm. worried I mixed the milksl up this morning, does anybody have any experience of what I should do? just ride it out? thanks.

Would the 4 year old not have noticeably it tasted different if they had the formula milk by mistake?

Mississippilessly · 09/04/2019 13:01

Oh bless you - yes it sounds like he has. I would give 111 a call or try your GP, ours will do a phone call back. I imagine the advice will be to ride it out. Poor him and poor u!

Give Piriton if he's blotchy.

If he gets blotchy around his face check his lips and mouth. Any sign of swelling there and you need to go to hospital or phone an ambulance.

If his symptoms are digestion related I don't think there's much you can do but offer water and make sure he's well hydrated.

Lastly, yes this is a useful lesson but do not beat yourself up about it. You're bound to take extra care from now on so don't dwell on it too much.

Palominoo I dont think I mixed the bowls up, she has 1.5 weetabix and he only has half. I think I might have just sloshed cows milk on his in a rush! I don't know if it could have happened. the formula bottle was empty but my DD likes to empty things in the sink. suppose I'm just trying to think of a reason for him to be like this today.

Ineednewshoes yes I think mostly digestion related he seems really windy and pulling his knees up in pain. his face is still red but his arms have gone down a bit.

Oh I see.

Hope he is okay. Easy mistake when you’re in a rush.

IncrediblySadToo · 09/04/2019 14:36

Aww bless. Poor little mite. I’d lay him down on a big towel, with no nappy on (but a light muslin over the plumbing!) and move his legs with his knees bent up to his tummy then bring them out straight towards you. He likely won’t enjoy it, but if you do it firmly it’ll help. (Don’t be tempted to do it too gently/small or it won’t help him).

It could be that you’ve given him cows milk, or it could just be a nasty bit of wind.

Don’t beat yourself up, IF he’s had cows milk you didn’t do it on purpose & you were dealing with DD too, not just pratting about on your phone or something. Accidents happen.

Don’t be reluctant to take him to the GP if you think he needs to be seen. They won’t mind or judge 🌷

It's easily done. My DS is anaphylactic to cow's milk and DH put cow's milk in his cereal one morning as he was still half asleep. Thankfully we have an epipen and DS was fine, but please don;t beat yourself up too much.

It doesn't sound like he's in imminent danger, but give some piriton if you have some and call 111 for some advice.

We changed things so that it was harder for us to make a mistake like that.
