What flooring with oak doors?

Moving into a new build property with big oak doors, planning hard floors. Would normally choose engineered wood or karndean but only like the wood effect in that. Would it be too much wood/hard to find something that tones?

Going to a flooring shop today to see if I can get a better idea of how all the wood would look. Anyone happy with the wood on wood look or have you found something better?

I’m planning to avoid oak flooring for this reason when we do our house - because it’ll be difficult to get it to match. We have oak furniture too so it’s another thing to think about but not as much of an issue if it doesn’t match the doors.

Have you considered tiles for hallway and carpet elsewhere or is it really wood you want? That’s what we are planning to do.

Wood is what I want - I would rather paint the doors white than have tile or carpet -

We've got oak Karndean with oak doors. Looks great.

Any chance of a photo Felix?
Which Karndean did you pick?

There are other brands of Karndean type flooring with much better designes

Have a look at Amtico, Forbo, etc

There’s a few cream wood effect ones, if you go online you can order samples - move them round different rooms for lighting and see what you think

No, each to their own! Grin

Wood will generally go with wood. Even if they are different types, stains, varnish.

ononie · 09/04/2019 18:37

oh, Doorway, the eek was to painting the oak doors ( sacrilege) - not to your flooring choices!

I just wonder if it would be toooo much Ed

I've got oak flooring and oak doors, looks good... the floor is well broken up by rugs and furniture anyway. Then by the time you paint and add pictures/plants etc, some consistency is actually quite good! I guess it might not work as well if you have loads of oak furniture and few soft furnishings or decorative touches.

ononie · 09/04/2019 19:28

Are the shades of oak identical Tremolo?

I’ve ordered loads of oak from different supplies - only one matched and was slightly too dark for out narrow room

You need to send for samples although the local Karndean shop had loads to take away

We've got engineered oak floors and oak doors. They both arrived unfinished and were done with the same colour Danish oil so they are similar colours. (The flooring guy just consulted with the carpenters on this - it's a pretty standard arrangement) White painted skirtings and cream walls - looks gorgeous Star

ononie · 10/04/2019 07:03

Exactly what we will have 99

OP posts:
TremoloGreen · 12/04/2019 12:29

Similar enough. Both oiled but the floor is a bit rustic so more knots/dark tones. We have slate floors elsewhere and slate hearths though so it all blends quite nicely. I dont believe in too much 'matching' though: I am not the sort of person who has a three piece suite or buys multiple items from a 'range' at John Lewis, it's a bit more of a mishmash of antique handme downs, vintage finds, functional habitat/JL and plenty of soft furnishings to blend it all together!

Have chosen 3 V4 oak samples to take to the house, not quite sure what the differences are. Anyone laid V4 engineered?

I have oak doors, skirtings, staircase and engineered oak floor (because of underfloor heating) and I love it. Never thought it was all too much wood. If you go for it, don’t fret too much about them being the same colour as over the years they mellow to different colours anyway.

ononie · 13/04/2019 20:37

The sitting/dining/kitchen are open plan - will this kind of flooring be OK in the kitchen area. I'm not too sloppy!

OP posts:
CatsMother66 · 13/04/2019 21:56

I wouldn’t and I don’t think it’s recommended. You may not be sloppy but friends, relatives and animals may be. Or there is always the possibility of a flood with dishwasher/washing machine etc. The company who did it for us (local family business) gave us a print out of how everything would look and it was so realistic. Maybe get a few printed off before you commit.
