Harry Potter Studios

Looking to book to go to the Harry Potter studios tour in the summer holidays. The teenager is 14 and likes HP - she’s not too old for it is she? Will be me, OH and her and possibly a friend.
Any top tips for when to go (notice they do evening tours as well as daytime), things not to miss and if it’s possible to find offers etc? I’ve had a little look for discount codes but they seem elusive!
Thanks

Definitley not too old! I am going in July with my friend. We are both 30!

She won't be too old. I really enjoyed the tour as an adult. If anything I would say younger children who haven't read the full series miss out. Definitely worth a visit, the cafe I remember was really busy but no way to avoid it really as it's in the middle of the tour

You can take your own food and eat it in the cafe, which I thought was pretty good. They do have quite a big outside seating area for picnics but it was freezing the day we went. The gift shop is great but v pricey.

When you first go in, stand to the left - then you'll be nearer the front for when you first go into the Great Hall.

That's about all I can think of. We loved it, can't wait to go again! Have a good time OP.

It's a while since I've been but first thing is to say it was AMAZING when we went! 14 is definitely not too old in fact I think the perfect age. I loved it and I'm more than a couple of decades older than that. You need 3hrs or so inside so don't book too late a slot. I think we had a lunchtime slot so we could eat or sandwiches just before then go round with drinks only needed. Only warning - when I went the gift shop was big, fabulous and VERY expensive and I felt bad saying no to things that were indeed magical but just far too expensive to justify. Apart from the gift shop the experience felt good value in that it was so good. Have a fantastic time!

If you want to try the butterbeer just buy one between you. It is vile - sickly sweet. Most people throw theirs into the wet waste barrel next to where they sell it.

MrsEricBana · 08/04/2019 08:26

Yes agree! We had one and all tasted it.

HundredMilesAnHour · 08/04/2019 08:26

You need to book asap if you want to go in the summer holidays as tickets sell out months ahead, especially at peak times.

Beamur · 08/04/2019 08:31

Tickets do sell out in advance but I think some are held back and released a bit nearer the date. But I would book early, you are unlikely to get in if you tried to book for the following week for example.

madeyemoodysmum · 08/04/2019 08:35

If you want summer hols book now I’m not joking. A new exhibit has opened last week and it will be very busy all this year.
Get the first tour or a 3.30 ish tour. Avoid mid morning to lunch as thats the busiest time.

Otherwise enjoy.
(I used to work there)

whiteroseredrose · 08/04/2019 09:00

DH enjoyed it as much as the DC (14 and 17 at the time)! Definitely not too old. We went for a v early slot as it wasn't quite so busy. There's a Premier Inn quite close that had family rooms and a Costa breakfast included.

Rockbird · 08/04/2019 09:05

Definitely not too old. We went in Feb and loved it. We spent four hours going round and still didn't see everything. Agree about the butterbeer although if you drink the drink and not the foam it's not so sweet but it's still pretty vile. We got one between 5 of us and still threw most of it away.

TapasForTwo · 08/04/2019 09:09

I don't think anyone can be to old. It is a studio tour with lots of detail and reading to do. It is not a theme park. However, I think you can be too young to appreciate it.

PersonalClown · 08/04/2019 09:16

Never too old if it is what you like.
I'm going again this year for the 3rd time. I'm going on my own at Christmas to see the snow etc and to do the audio tour by myself.

I'll be pushing 41 then!!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 08/04/2019 10:07

I wouldn't bring anyone under 10, to be honest! 14 is perfect.

CabbageHippy · 08/04/2019 10:13

definitely not too old - we loved it (especially me) would go again tomorrow.

BillywilliamV · 08/04/2019 10:16

We were advised to go three in yhtee hours before closing time, which worked well because they stop letting people in so it does empty a bit.

Butterflycookie · 08/04/2019 10:21

No not old at all. We we there for 5 hours Blush

jackparlabane · 08/04/2019 10:28

I'd allow a good 4-5 hours at that age, but that means you could get there late afternoon when it does empty out. And later tickets don't sell out so quickly. Take your own food - the hot dogs etc are quite good but take ages and are expensive.

Worth watching the films just before you go - I read all the books as they came out, have read some to the kids and lived with ds who is obsessed, but only saw the first two films ages ago. If I hadn't watched 3 films in the week before going, I wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly so much. It may be stating the obvious but it's all about the films, nothing about the stories or characters. Brilliant, but some kids might be disaooointed.
