Anything at all please?
Apart from calamine lotion. Got that and it's not helping.

Thanks

Antihistamines
Cool bath with a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in.
Cold hot water bottle.
Loose cotton clothing.
Keep temperature down with calpol.

There is a chicken pox soothing gel available.

mumsie8 · 07/04/2019 22:05

I read something on my fb page today about a woman being told to use head and shoulders classic shampoo in a warm bath (i think). She posted photos of before and after and claimed it worked in soothing her child's chicken pox. I'll see if i can find the thread again and come back.

Apparently Head & Shoulders works like magic

Fontleroy · 07/04/2019 22:05

Virasoothe, used on ds and me(in my late 20’s) and it was a god send!

MissSkate · 07/04/2019 22:05

We've just had chickenpox here. Things that helped were

Poxclin mousse
Piriton antihistamine liquid
Oat bath (oats in foot of old tights, swirl in bath water and wash child with it)
Aveeno moisturiser
Eurax anti itch cream.

Justonemorepancake · 07/04/2019 22:05

Antihistamines and virasoothe or poxcillin

TheGirlWhoLived · 07/04/2019 22:06

The new stuff (since dd1 was tiny) is viralsoothe- costs about a fiver in the chemist and is awesome

MyHairNeedsASnip · 07/04/2019 22:06

Eurax cream from the chemist worked for us to stop itching. It says it works for up to 12 hours so helps at night

crumpet · 07/04/2019 22:06

Oat bath helped dd massively - whenever the itching got too much we popped her I to the bath again.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 07/04/2019 22:07

few drops of neutral oil in the bath...almond, plus a couple of drops of lavender

I did this for dd and she has not got a single pox mark on her....and you could barely put a finger on her without touching a chicken pox! She was utterly plastered in them!

Thecrown3 · 07/04/2019 22:09

Article on daily mail online tonight stating head an shoulders , use as bubble bath.

mumsie8 · 07/04/2019 22:10

Here you go:

Anyone who’s kiddies pick up chicken pox I cannot recommend this enough!!
Xx went to the docs today and we were advised to use Head and Shoulders CLASSIC as a bubble bath to sooth the spots.
The difference is unbelievable! Over an hour without a single scratch or moan! No more angry red spots. Hopefully this helps anyone else who’s at theyre wits end with scratching children.

She also posted photo's but i am obviously not going to post those and i took her childs name out.

PhilomenaButterfly · 07/04/2019 22:10

Cool oatmeal baths
Calamine

fadingfast · 07/04/2019 22:13

We also did the oats in tights thing for the bath, held under running water. I think that was the best thing but we also used piriton and some other expensive pox gel which I think helped.

Tinks15 · 07/04/2019 22:17

Salt baths too, drys the pox out & scabs over quicker, also Poxcillin helped massively & we did use Piriton a few times.

Crunchymum · 07/04/2019 22:21

This and Piriton

Eurax, piriton and oat baths

FaithInfinity · 07/04/2019 22:31

Poor DD had a lot, especially round her genitalia. Oat baths were the only thing that helped. She had 4 baths some days!

In case you didn’t know, avoid ibuprofen, it can make the spots much worse and cause problems.
