Disillusioned with life in the UK...where shall I go?

Having somewhat of an existential crisis, and spending a lot of time dreaming about pastures new.

Anyone live anywhere they think is getting it right? Good standard of living, decent values, nice scenery, a government being run by human beings?

Indulge me, please - help me plan my escape, or at least help me construct a pleasant fantasy; before I lose faith in humanity altogether.

My life is a lot happier since I stopped paying so much attention to the news. Exactly!

Please wait until either Brexit or the second referendum, so you can vote Remain and help those of us who cannot leave (in my case having an elderly mother in need of some care).

What?!

OP, if your mother is capable enough to sack carers, she doesn't need you to care for her. If what you're doing is inadvertantly propping her up / enabling her, then let her fall. It sounds harsh but she doesn't get to sack her carers and require you to come at her beck and call.

Start looking at teaching vacancies in New Zealand (fewer flies than Australia and less right wing).

Did OP say she wants to teach?

I think I need to batten down the hatches and just potter about quietly until it passes
And stop watching the news

Absolutely stop watching the news (and reading newspapers if you do that too) as the mainstream media drip-feeds us doom and gloom whilst ignoring most good things that are happening. This creates an unbalanced view of the world and is depressing. I’d also suggest reading Positive News online which also helps redress this imbalance.

I can’t recommend anywhere to live though I’m afraid as I’ve only lived in Britain, and each area I’ve been in has had pros and cons. It all depends on which cons you can tolerate I suppose.

@OccidentalPurist - the Middle East.
