Fucking Hell! Root canal, dead tooth, piece just fallen off - what now?

As it says really.
I've managed to keep this tooth for forty-odd years (not that it's beautiful, it died years ago and is black, but that's ok as it's a molar, so not seen).
The bit that has come off is on the inside, so it makes it more likely to injure my tongue. It's broken off almost down to the gum....
Does anyone know what's likely to happen.

You could have mini posts put in if they still do that. That worked for me for a little while but eventually the tooth crumbled more (and I got another abscess). As the dentist only gave a 50-50 chance of a root canal working, I had the tooth out. I've not bothered with an implant as you can't see the gap.

I’m having dental issues too. Had a molar removed a few years back and had root canal on the molar next to it. There was some infection in this tooth so for the last two years my dentist has been faffing about with it, refusing to crown it because of the possible infection but last week it became very painful and she found it now has a crack in it and will have to be removed. As that now will leave me with a massive gap I asked about dentures and she said as I was fairly young still (46) she recommends an implant which, according to her is a snip at £2,500, I could have cried!! My teeth have been falling apart since I hit my 40’s 😢

Went today and all was surprisingly uneventful. Filling.
But I can have it crowned, but the dentist didn't X-ray?
