Ideas of what to do in easter holidays?

pansydansy · 05/04/2019 12:08

Need to make a list of things to do with my dc over the easter holidays.

Their 4&2

Money's a bit tight so need cheap/free things to do.

We have a car so can get about.

Ideas of what to do at home too are welcome.

Thank you 😊

Whereabouts do you live?
We have passed for various things so always use them. Have a gym membership so use that for swimming.
Treasure hunts, find large pebbles, paint them and hide again.
Make a list of things you might see in a walk like bird, cat, etc and see how many you can tick off.
Feed ducks, visit pet shop, library, make slime with corn flour and water and food colouring.
Bake.

Write down all your local parks, beach , woods.
Look on tripadvisor for you town, anything free that you haven't done?
Check your tourist board website, ours have a zillion egg hunts on.

Got a hill near you? Hardboil eggs, decorate them and do an egg rolling race! Go on a duckling hunt at the local pond? Libraries and local museums are often good for free trails or colouring competitions etc.

It's tricky at this age isn't it? A lot of the holiday entertainment stuff is set up for older kids it seems.

Look on your local council website, ours has loads of Easter Holiday events in the city centre, and at country park estate type places on the outskirts of the city, that have playgrounds, petting zoos, woods and fields to run around etc.

Sometimes you can get an annual pass that's worth it if you can go more than a few times and obviously it lasts all year so you can go any time you like. Take a picnic to cut the cost as food is usually expensive and poor quality.

Or maybe have the occasional ice cream, cheaper and more of a treat than paying £3-5 for a ham sandwich, crisps and a fruit shoot.

Thank you all for your suggestions. We do live near a lot of hills, lots of country parks and forests too. Their ages are tricky but a blessing too. Means their entertained cheaply but I've just ran out of ideas for them.

Their away for 3 days in the 2nd week with grandparents thank god, so it's not like I need to entertain them for the full 2 weeks.

Hopefully the weather will be kind to us 🤞🏼

when mine were younger and i got stuck for ideas i would do a theme week eg farms, space, fairies, castles etc
then i would think of
a day out eg local kids farm, space museum, local castle, fairy trail etc
a craft eg make cotton wool sheep, a rocket, fairy garden, etc
dig out all the books/programme on that theme to do over the week
lay out the themed toys eg our happyland stuff including farm, or out elc space rocket etc.

just helped focus what we were doing and felt better than random stuff.

pansydansy · 05/04/2019 13:07

I just looked at our local farm and the annual cost for a family is £82 which I thought wasn't bad. It's 20 miles away though, so a bit of a trek.

we'd also do themed food like going to a fram shop to choose new fruit and veg to try, make fairy cakes, ave a medieval feast (chicken legs and apple juice)

PodgeBod · 05/04/2019 13:12

Mine are the same age and have 3 weeks off for Easter (we are already a week in). if you have a childrens centre near you then they do stay open over the holidays. Following the thread for ideas Grin

MinnieMountain · 05/04/2019 13:12

Do you mind saying where you are? People here may know specific things in your area. Or ask on a local FB group.

BlueChampagne · 05/04/2019 13:20

Take a look at English Heritage or National Trust membership. Will be a bit more than the annual farm ticket, but will give you access to loads more properties.

poodlewoodle · 05/04/2019 13:21

I always recommend checking out your local library over school holidays I know where I am there's always plenty happening. Also any youth clubs, arts centres?

SimplyPut · 05/04/2019 13:24

Every year we go a walk, collect twigs and paint them then make easter themed decorations to hang on them. All in a jar = Easter tree 😳

Hollowvictory · 05/04/2019 13:54

Have to say I'm glad mine are older and painting twigs is off the agenda.
