How to motivate yourself to get up and make the first move when you're deeply deeply depressed?

The black dog has landed today. I don't feel I can move AT ALL. The one healthy braincell I have left says I HAVE to get moving & do something because moving eases depression, but I just can't see the point. I've got no purpose anymore. I've already achieved everything in life that I wanted to. I can't think of anything else that I want enough to get me moving. Give me a kick up the arse will you?

Get out of the house first and foremost.
Go for a walk, and try and take note of nice things around you. Flowers, wildlife, birds.
Just chuck a coat on and go, don't bother about make up or anything
Even 1/2 hour in the fresh air will make a little difference.
I sympathise, it is utterly shit

I agree with @Etino couldn't have said it better myself!

Well done Op for finding some motivation! Been there myself so I know how hard it is and some days I'm still the same. Posting here hearing other ppls views and thoughts must be helpful. Sometimes we all just need a bit of support or someone else to just say go for it!

When I was at my worst, I found a craft to do at home. Sounds bonkers but I liked decoupage so started to decoupage wooden spoons! I would set myself the task of buying the stuff each week which meant getting out to shop. Buying numerous wooden spoons! The chap in my local hardware shop was quite bemused. And on the days when I couldn't get motivated enough to do anything I would sit at the table and make my spoons! All different versions colours patterns. I used to do a few at a time which were quite time consuming until I had a set of each. Needless to say, I now have in my kitchen on display about 13 sets of six spoons! In nice pots.

I remember at the time various ppl thinking I was barking! But it filled chunks of my day. And more importantly I enjoyed doing it.

The point is find something anything to do, for those days when you can't get motivated. Force yourself to get involved in something if you can't get out because it's to difficult then find a hobby to do at home. So that you feel like you have achieved something. Whether that's cooking? Baking? Cross stitch, decorating, selling stuff on eBay, or just getting involved on mums net! Just slowly build yourself up. Even picking books at library to bring home and read? Anything.

Set yourself little targets. Small steps!

Acrylic paint pouring is great fun
You need no talent at all
You need a cheap couple of canvases from the works or any old picture in a charity shop
Some spray paint if you need to paint the frame
Otherwise get some acrylic paint
Put some of each in plastic pots
A bit of water
Optional some silicon..we use tyreslic ...lasts for ages
Some white pva glue
Mix together with some craft lolly sticks
Put a bit of white paint on the canvas and then pour and tilt
The silicon gives it cells that open up revealing all the colours underneath
Especially if you do a dirty pour and put a bit of each colour in the pot first...no stirring.then pour

@SplinterSplit how are you? Flowers

Hi Etino Not too terrible. I've been listening to Marissa Peer & & trying to motivate myself to 'make the unfamiliar familiar'. I'm so stuffed with body pain today though as you might see from my other thread..

OO I hadn’t seen your other thread! Do you know about vedana? I can look up a link to it or have a google to distract yourself. At the worse it’ll make you 🙄 but it might be helpful.
