First sickness bug, please help!

DS is 17 months and tossed and turned last night which is hugely unlikely him.

He was sick for the first time at 7am, and has since been sick another two times. 3 in total.

I know it will pass but I feel awful watching him this way! He looks completely lost. And after he's vomited he cries "Oh Mummy! Sad"

What can I even do for him? I don't even have a big bowl for him to be sick into.

We are about to take a shower together and then I'm just going to see if he wants to sleep for a while.

Anything practical I'm not thinking of?

Fluids fluids fluids.. don’t worry if he won’t eat but make sure he has fluids.
Drinks, ice pops, water melon, high fluid containing foods.
Keep an eye on his nappies they need to be wet and regularly wet.

Hand hygiene, wash your hands a lot if handling vomit on clothing/bedding/ etc. Anti bac everything.

Look on nhs choices website, it’s fab and has evidence based information about it (and every illness a kid can throw at you)

Plenty of fluids and lots of cuddles.

WhyReschedule · 05/04/2019 07:51

cross I'm an annoyance with the anti bac usually so this will be interesting Grin

Can I ask, what if they aren't keeping fluids down or won't take them? He's still breastfeeding so I'm hoping that might help too

Try ice lollies?

spaniorita · 05/04/2019 07:57

Anti bac doesn't work on sickness bugs because they're a virus**.

Plenty of hand washing plus anti viral hand foam plus bleach plush 48 hours quarantine after last bout vomiting / diarrhoea if he ends up with that too which I hope he doesn't.

Bucket with bleach in the bottom.

As pps have said, plenty of clear fluids to keep him hydrated, I wouldn't push food unless he asks for it. Toast/biscuits/crackers to start off with.

GilmoreMe · 05/04/2019 09:20

Antibac does kill viruses so it's worth using

Breast milk is good, little and often or whenever he wants to feed.
As long as he is having regular wet nappies he will absorb some of the milk.
Oh and wait for the diarrhoea.....it may make an appearance!

windsorthewashingbasket · 05/04/2019 10:25

Water, just one sip at a time. Wait 5 minutes, then one more sip.

tomhazard · 05/04/2019 12:37

If he's struggling to keep water down try sucking water off a clean sponge. Also Ice pops/lollies. Don't worry, these things usually pass pretty quickly

Well, this is very odd.

He keeps vomiting every hour, but is happily watching Peppa Pig and giggling. I'm very much caught off guard when he vomits!

Kids are weird with vomiting. They literally go from fine to exploding in a matter of minutes. I've always found it so bizarre. Mine tend to always be sick again at night so I layer up their bed with towels so it's easy to strip. Also have a vomit kit upstairs now, plastic bags, rubber gloves, kitchen roll and bleach spray. Happy days! I think it's the worst part of parenting little children, sorry for you OP Sad

We have a sick bucket which is called for at times. Bleach, diluted clean loo, handles, door handles light switches, so others do not catch it.

Hidingteacher · 05/04/2019 16:19

Bleach rather than antibac - antibac does not kill norovirus whereas bleach does - if you don’t use bleach you might as well just be wiping up the vom with soapy water - most will be removed but it does not kill the virus. Bleach bleach bleach on anything he has booted near, door handles, light switches etc, boil wash bedding and piled on clothes and wash your hands loads.

*vomited. Booted was a creative autocorrect.
