Doesn't it always come with toasties in cafes? Confused

Eh? I love it in salads, weird!

RiddleyW · 04/04/2019 18:41

Oooh weird! Do you think it’s been sprayed with something you need to wash off? I eat red onion raw often

MrsPear · 04/04/2019 18:41

Is that the ready prepared stuff ?

RiddleyW · 04/04/2019 18:41

Cook off I meant

MikeUniformMike · 04/04/2019 18:42

It's because it is already sliced.

SneakyGremlins · 04/04/2019 18:42

It's literally just a thirty pence bag of Asda sliced red onion.

I've put it in a toastie and only seen that when clearing up Confused

Maybe it's preserved in chlorine or something. Just buy a red onion next time and eat raw. Yum!

prettyLittlefool · 04/04/2019 18:42

Incredibly dangerous. You should always make sure the juices run clear. Oh no that's chicken isn't it Blush

Sculpin · 04/04/2019 18:43

It has probably been treated with something to stop it going brown after being cut up.

PickAChew · 04/04/2019 18:43

It's probably more to do with the way it's been prepared and the risk of bacterial contamination, compared with a red onion you've cut freshly, yourself

Whynham · 04/04/2019 18:43

Probably coated in something not good to eat raw.

lanbro · 04/04/2019 18:43

I sell it in salads and toasties every day raw...and eat quite a bit whilst prepping, I'm still alive and not aware of having killed off any customers

LL83 · 04/04/2019 18:44

I think onions absorb germs really well when cut. So I am guessing it is because it is sliced. You can definitely est red onion raw normally.

happyhillock · 04/04/2019 18:45

Cheese and red onion toastie yummy

SneakyGremlins · 04/04/2019 18:45

I'll let you know if this toastie kills me - will a toastie count as cooking? Grin

BertrandRussell · 04/04/2019 18:46

You can. But you should not.

RiddleyW · 04/04/2019 18:48

Why Bertrand?

dementedpixie · 04/04/2019 18:48

If the cheese turns to lava then it should cook the onion a bit

Impatientwino · 04/04/2019 18:51

Ok now I want a cheese and onion toastie Grin

SneakyGremlins · 04/04/2019 18:53

Oh the cheese (mozzarella Wink) was absolutely lava.

OP posts:
greenelephantscarf · 04/04/2019 18:54

it's because it's sliced and refridgerated.
just like bagged salat leaves that also say to wash before use.
can be contaminated with nasty germs.

most likely nothing will happen

BertrandRussell · 04/04/2019 18:55

Because it’s disgusting.....

Palominoo · 04/04/2019 18:58

Lovely with a jacket potato, butter, cheddar cheese, mixed salad leaves and chutney on the side.

Can't say that I've died from eating this.

AutumnCrow · 04/04/2019 19:01

It's probably the risk of bacterial contamination, as pp have said.

TheQueef · 04/04/2019 19:04

It's because someone's had their grubby mits on it to chop it. Confused
