Can I submit a tax return on the 5th April for 2018/19?

I"m currently on hold to the tax office (48 minute and counting) after trawling through their websites.

I know most people want to know the latest date they can submit for the previous financial year but I need mine doing asap.

Reason being - we have a mortgage appointment on the 6th April at 10 am and I need my SA 302 Confused

Anyone?! (posting on chat for traffic)

The tax year runs 6th April 18 - 5th April 19, so I think the earliest you will be able to do it is just after midnight on 6th April.

EmmaStone · 04/04/2019 11:56

Have you tried to logon and access it? I suspect it will open at Midnight on 6 April as When says, but if you do it then, you can submit and access your SA302 immediately.

Oh and yes, logged on just now, nothing is showing, no information even about when it will open so to speak.

Can't you do it first thing on Saturday morning?

EmmaStone · 04/04/2019 12:02

Actually, have you got an accountant? They should be able to do an in year estimate if necessary.

caughtinanet · 04/04/2019 12:05

Pretty sure you won't be able to do it until the 6th at the earliest

Will the person you're having the appointment with really expect you to have that information immediately the new tax year starts?

caughtinanet · 04/04/2019 12:07

I just googled to see what an SA302 is and the tax website says you can't print one off for 72 hours after you've input your figures so you wouldn't get one in time anyway (assuming I've googled the right thing)

TheoriginalLEM · 04/04/2019 12:09

Can you feign illness and postpone mortage application?

sackrifice · 04/04/2019 12:09

Can you put the mortgage appointment back a week?

ExpletiveDelighted · 04/04/2019 12:09

Mine always takes a few days after submission for the calculations to be done, you can't see them right away.

delilahbucket · 04/04/2019 12:10

Even if you submit your tax return in the morning you don't get your sa302 for 72 hours. You either need to put back your mortgage appointment or you need to ask your mortgage adviser not to submit your application straight away.
You cannot give an accountants estimated earnings. The underwriters won't accept it.

EmmaStone · 04/04/2019 12:13

Ah OK, sorry, when I worked in tax returns, we could churn out SA302s on submission, but that must have been because we were agents. Although the underwriters won't accept the in-year calculation, if it's being used for mortgage calculations, you'll be able to forward the actual SA302 when generated to have the application progress.

CoastalWave · 04/04/2019 13:06

Thanks everyone. So i've had to ring the bank and put the mortgage appointment back til the 13th. It's just so frustrating. We've had our offer accepted and need to get going . I genuinely thought I could just walk in on the 6th with my tax return done!

Well, if the house is meant to be..and all that!

Thanks for all the input. I have no idea why it wasn't coming up on google, but then as soon as you googled SA302, there was the info i needed.

I hope it all works out for you.

ForalltheSaints · 04/04/2019 19:47

The tax year has ended on 5th April since 1753, so you were warned! Glad the mortgage appointment has been sorted out.

WitchDancer · 04/04/2019 19:54

Can you not keep your appointment and get your SA302 later? As long as you have your computation it should be fine
