How long does a boiler take to fit?

How long does it take? DD has bronchitis so don't want to stay here if it's long as the house will be freezing!

Mine was done in two days. Including knocking holes in the wall and removing old water tanks

DragonMamma · 04/04/2019 07:25

It was 2 days here too.

giveitadayoff · 04/04/2019 07:27

Jesus! Guess I will go to my mums then and leave him a key.

2 days is quick! My experience has always been about a week from start to finish.

BelfastSmile · 04/04/2019 07:34

Ours was working after one afternoon (a few hours), and then they came back the following morning to finish off things like sealing the outside vent.

Just give them a ring and ask them how long it will take.

KnifeAngel · 04/04/2019 07:34

Ours took 4 hours just fitting a new boiler. We already had the radiators in place.

Beamur · 04/04/2019 07:35

Mine was done within one day.

SileneOliveira · 04/04/2019 07:37

If they're just removing the old one and putting a new one in the same place, a day.

We had ours moved and that obviously took longer as they had to put in new pipework too.

SoupDragon · 04/04/2019 07:37

Mine was one guy for two days. There was a lot of draining and flushing the system.

The house wasn't freezing even though we were without the boiler for a night and it was this time of year.

SoupDragon · 04/04/2019 07:38

This wa just removingand replacing in the same place so it doesn't necessarily just take a day for that.

How many people will be doing it?

BertyFlanter · 04/04/2019 07:38

It depends on what boiler you have now, and what your having. Also how old the original boiler is as to wether changes have to be made to reach current regulations.
I manage a heating firm, and it's very rare for even the worst swaps to take more than a couple of days.
Combi to combi, done in a day. System swap day and a half. Brand new system, 2-3 days depending on the number of rads and accessibility.

kaytee87 · 04/04/2019 07:40

We had ours replaced in a day. Some pipe work was also replaced but no radiators.
The engineer had an apprentice to help.

babysharkah · 04/04/2019 07:47

2 days including installing two new radiators in loft extension and paperwork for that. There were four of them though.

Vinorosso74 · 04/04/2019 07:54

Recently had ours done. He was here two days-long day on day 1 and left around 2 the next day.
He did have to put an extra pipe in for the condenser, change the external flue and flushed the system.
We weren't without heating or hot water overnight either.

DappledThings · 04/04/2019 07:55

3 days last time. But it also included removing the old immersion tank and draining the tank in the loft. I took the DC to my parents and was very glad I did!

mumknowsbestapparently · 04/04/2019 07:58

Ours was a like for like switch with no new radiators, but he did do a full system flush, he arrived at about 10 and was done for 4. That was one guy. I was v.impressed!

BertyFlanter · 04/04/2019 08:10

Oh yes, do make sure a system flush is done. Bad idea to spend £££ on a new boiler and instantly let dirty water run through it. Should also include a filter and inhibitor. Depending on the manufacturer those things along with an annual service will keep your warranty/guarantee valid.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 04/04/2019 08:12

Ours took three days as we needed some new pipework put in as well.

wendz86 · 04/04/2019 08:14

Mine only took a few hours .

squirrelclub · 04/04/2019 08:19

Ours took a day

giveitadayoff · 04/04/2019 08:30

Do they turn everything of then? As our house is absolutely freezing otherwise.

OP posts:
trendingorange · 04/04/2019 09:01

Mine took 1.5 days

kaytee87 · 04/04/2019 09:29

Yes, they have to turn everything off.

Could you get a couple of electric heaters?

Dowser · 04/04/2019 09:56

2 days, complete new system, floorboards ripped up, all new radiators
I moved out

Boiler cleaned...8 days 😱 moved out again..to our caravan beginning of Feb...even with central heating on was fufn freezing
