Does anyone here use Sainsbury's grocery delivery? Fed up of other stores.

I'm getting sodding fed up of food shopping!

Currently online delivery works for us as I have a toddler and am 33 weeks pregnant with dreadful backache so struggle to do it myself. Used to use Tesco without issue but suddenly found it very expensive and product selection diabolical. They constantly seem to be discontinuing lines and a lot of their own brand is shit.

Not being a food snob as I really like Lidl but as I said, I struggle to do a full weekly shop with being pregnant. Been using Asda recently. However in the last few weeks, we've had a ton of subs and short dates, last week was cancelled without reason and the fruit and veg has been of very poor quality. I also don't get on with Morrisons website so I'm left with Sainsbury's.

How do people find them? What's the quality of the fruit and veg like? Is the online delivery reliable?

Thanks.

I find the fruit and veg good quality and the delivery reliable. I always tick the box for no subs though, so no idea how good they are for those.

TressiliansStone · 03/04/2019 21:29

I've been using Sainsbury's deliveries recently and my local lot are excellent.

Can't say much about prices, because I haven't shopped around recently, but last time I cross-checked they were a muchness with Tesco and and sometimes lower, on the items I wanted.

Impatientwino · 03/04/2019 21:32

We use Sainsbury's delivery and I'm rarely disappointed.

Their fruit and veg quality are good and their subs are ok. They often have our favourites wine on offer so generally meal plan around the offers that week!

I have tried them all and found Sainsbury’s the best so far - I’ve been using them for a year now. It’s reliable, not been late yet, friendly drivers, the fruit and veg is good quality. Rarely get any subs, and the dates are ok.

However I will say I do think it depends where you live and what store it comes from for all these grocery delivery companies (apart from Ocado and Morrison’s obviously as they come from warehouses), a friend of mine that doesn’t live near me uses Asda and really rates them, I tried them - they couldn’t have been more useless.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 03/04/2019 21:34

I've used Sainsburys for a few years - absolutely fine. Need to book slots early to get a good choice - I book 1 week in advance & can always choose any slot I like. Substitutions are sensible - sausages for sausages, gluten free bread for another brand of gluten free bread. Drivers call if they're arriving early / late although most likely to be early than late

Whynotnowbaby · 03/04/2019 21:38

Swapped from Ocado to Sainsbury’s two years ago and they were great. No issues at all, the only thing I didn’t like was that I couldn’t add clothes to the food order so the pairs of pants or socks I would chuck in if I was in the shop would have to be an online TU order which wasn’t worth it for such small items.

alwaysthinkingofsleep · 03/04/2019 21:38

I was going to change to Sainsburys from tesco however the Pampers have never been on offer when I've checked...I have 2 under 2 so this is a main expenditure for us right now! Tesco always have some offers on Pampers which saves approx £5 per order for us.

Dissenting voice here-I used Tesco for a few months then switched to Sainsbury’s as I prefer the meat quality and a few other bits they stock that Tesco’s don’t. Tesco’s subs are much better-they always sub with something of superior quality and charge the same. Anything you don’t want to keep gets refunded. Always good long dates.
My last Sainsbury’s delivery had meat only a couple of days in date (incl sausages which last ages), subs were rubbish-smaller quantities of what I’d ordered. They refunded the difference in vouchers rather than money. Final straw was ‘short dated items’ bloomin’ massive cartons of milk that went out of date the day after they were delivered. I refuse to believe there was no other milk. (To be fair the driver refunded it and let me keep it but I still had to go milk shopping the next day).

Asda are awful. I stopped using them. Tesco is so overpriced. I use Morrisons normally. Yet have ocado coming tomorrow. As I've got cash back through my bank and free delivery from them. So either Morrisons or ocado.

frankiefirstyear · 03/04/2019 22:03

I use Tesco if they send me an offer for delivery but tbh I'm very careful what I order from them , stuff seems to go off really quickly.

Sainsbury's are brilliant (hope I don't tempt fate by posting this!) but their things have good shelf life and they seem to try to follow requests better thanTesco (eg. Request sippy cup for a girl pink/yellow etc please; and send blue almost like they're trying to prove a point?!). They always seem to come at the start of the slot too which is good not hanging around checking for them for an hour. Quite often nectar do vouchers towards delivery too which helps!

Shelbybear · 03/04/2019 22:06

Ok so I've tried them all.

Sainsbury's is seconds last for me. Asda were last substitutes were awful and always have at least a few.

Sainsbury's, I find more expensive and I don't like the policy on substitutes. They give you an alternative and charge you for it, giving you the difference back in a voucher off your next online shop. They once substituted a crate of beer with 4 packs and charged me the full amount with a voucher off next shop but I don't shop there every week so it's making you go back. You can hand the goods back though.

Tesco I always found quite gd they don't charge extra for more expensive substitutes. My fav is Waitrose, if they substitute and don't charge you extra. They also give you items for free if they have a shorter shelf life than what they usually have. Also free delivery over £60 and they frequently send money off vouchers.

I prefer Sainsburys, have been using them for many years

womanhuman · 03/04/2019 22:25

I’ve been using Sainsbury’s forever so I don’t know how common this is at other stores, but I find use by dates can be quite short.

They’ll take anything back if you spot it, and they point it out if they spot it, but still.

I (mostly) get round it by doing two shops a week, which with a delivery pass doesn’t cost me anything and gives me some flexibility and means I don’t have to play fridge jenga, so it’s not a big deal for me, but I think I’d find it annoying if I was trying to buy for the week.

AnemoneAnenome · 03/04/2019 23:46

I dislike their subs. They always sub something more expensive and only give you the difference in vouchers. They also make it harder to use the vouchers than Tesco do. Their click and collect service and their delivery staff are great.

Theoldwoman · 04/04/2019 00:07

I literally cannot get over how many choices you have!!!!

Nuttyaboutnutella · 04/04/2019 09:15

Hmm, interesting about the vouchers with Sainsbury's. I'll give them a try for a few weeks and see how they are. Wish Tesco wouldn't stop constantly discounting lines as the delivery service was great.

Also meant to say, Ocado and Waitrose don't deliver to my postcode even though I see their vans in the town next to us and the other side of the city.

Sainsbury's are great. They turn up on time and generally don't substitute much in my area. My one gripe is that what is available depends on the store, so if the store they load up at is small, some things aren't available. But I guess you get that anywhere. Product selection is much better than Asda, in my area, and they are more reliable than Tesco and Asda - we've had issues with both of these not turning up without telling us they wouldn't be coming. I'd recommend them

FranklinTheCat · 04/04/2019 09:27

Oh and refund vouchers are now all online so you can add them towards your next shop very easily.

YorkieTheRabbit · 04/04/2019 10:05

I used to use Sainsburys but they were hit and miss, weird substitutions, tongue instead of chicken breast anyoneEnvy
Often had items with very short shelf life.

I’ve been using Morrison’s for a while now and find them to be excellent
