Does real gold tarnish??

I have some real gold hoops which I've never worn, just gone to try them on and see one has gone browny coloured! Is that tarnish? I didn't think that happened to real gold?

How can I clean it off? Tried rubbing it but it's not budged.

I've never known any gold to tarnish. Maybe go a bit dull and need a buff with a gold cloth, but that's it.

It does oxidise. Just needs a clean and polish.

No. Gold is essentially chemically inert.

Gold doesn't tarnish, but bronze does. Could they be gold plated?

Gold doesn't tarnish.

The gold doesn't tarnish but the silver that makes up the alloy does. (9ct gold is 37.5% gold and 62.5% other metals, a good amount of which may be silver.)

Silver dip (leave in for 10 seconds max) will remove the tarnish and a rub with a silver cloth will restore the shine.

9ct yellow gold really benefits from silver dip. Don't use on opals or other soft stones though.
