Best microwave for an elderly person

Hi, can anyone recommend an easy microwave for an elderly person to use please? Doesn’t need to be anything fancy, just needs to heat cups of coffee and ready meals up. Doesn’t need a grill function etc. Thanks.

Best microwave for an elderly person?

That's a bit cruel, can't you just put them in a home?

Have a look on Argos as the reviews are verified purchases and they also have a Q&A where people will have asked similar.

I have a basic Bosch one with dials.

Bit nicer looking

I went out of my way to get a microwave with dials. As close to foolproof as you can get.

My last one was like this:
Simple Value 700W Standard Microwave MM717CNF - White, Argos 400/7573

A basic easy microwave is the Argos cookworks range. Cheap and works perfectly. We had one and it lasted and lasted and was simple to use.

X-post with everyone.

Seriously, it's a good 'un. Doesn't beep. Doesn't flash. Gives a solitary ping when done. You can't fry a plate by leaving it on grill accidentally...

Does the elderly person have any arthritis or similar in their hands or wrists? If so, test the door release mechanism and any dials to make sure they can manage them.

My mum blew three microwaves up in succession before I found the most basic model I could - like this one. I then taped over all the other controls on power, and time above 4 minutes

Yy to checking force needed if they have pain/weakness in the hands. Some door release functions can require quite a lot of oomph.

Thank you all for your suggestions and ideas. I didn’t know about dementia friendly microwaves, that’s definitely worth a look. Lots of things you have suggested that I would not have thought about. Will have a google. Thank you.

I got my Mom, who has dementia, this microwave recently. It only took a couple of goes for her to get used to it. The dials were far easier for her to get used to than buttons.

Do not get the Sharp one with knobs, it is easy to use but gets dangerously overheated on the outside. Tesco was selling them a week or so ago.

Re Argos reviews, take note that most of them are good ones, Amazon are more varied and less skewed in favour of what is in stock on the Argos site. I know this because I have spent 2 weeks reading them all.

Find a microwave you like the look of, find it on Amazon, read the reviews, then buy it wherever you like.

Also look at Asda.
