When was the last time you really panicked?

I have never had a panic attack but I was hyperventilating and thought my heart would burst recently because, at nearly 60, I thought the gang of women who were at the Mother’s Day service at church would make remarks about my granddaughter like they did at the Carol Service.

I got over it and through it but I thought I would collapse.

If you mean having a full blown panic attack? I had a few in my late 20s but am 56 now and haven't had one since. Apart from during birth of dc1 but that was stopped short by being given a general anaesthetic. Just wanted to reassure you that it is possible to get over them, horrible episodes aren't they? Every sympathy.

Oh no what did they say about your granddaughter before? They sound like horrible people.

alwaysstressed She had been badly behaved last time, not awful, just didn’t want to be there and shouted in the prayers and the sermon Blush.

It has mentioned by the church “hats” (group of ladies who dominate the church) several times since then. I thought I was strong enough to ignore them but walking up the the church, when I saw them, I just knew someone would remind me yet again.

I hate going there now but it’s the local church where all the school and brownie guide events happen.

When I lost my child in a public place. Shit myself!

How old is your gd ? Why didn't someone just take her out?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 03/04/2019 16:51

Proper panic attack - when I passed my sister in the street. We do not get on, and I really didn't want to have to interact with her. Luckily, despite almost brushing shoulders she didn't notice me.

Panicking, the other day when I realised my finances were temporarily in a mess thanks to my forgetfulness and stupidity. Luckily a few phonecalls (and a generous offer from a friend which, in the end, wasn't needed) sorted it all.

When I reported a crime against me.

Twitterati · 03/04/2019 17:43

I don’t know why nobody took her out. I was desperately trying to catch the eye of a teacher to mouth to them I would take her but they kept their eyes averted.

Never had a panic attack but I think the last time I felt truly panic-stricken was when DS1 was badly injured and almost lost a limb. I am unflappable in the extreme with everything life throws at me but that blew me to pieces and I feel like I'm still finding bits of my heart that have fallen off.

He's recovering still and he'll be fine eventually, but the sheer terror of seeing my child so terribly injured and being able to do nothing was hideous.
