Activities nearby Sherwood Forest Center Parcs

We're going to Sherwood Center Parcs next week (hooray), but would like some ideas on what attractions there are outside the park for before check in and after check out (we don't really want to spend this time in the pool/on the park).

We wondered about Sherwood Forest itself, but I can't walk long distances at the moment. Any recommendations of places to visit while in the area?

I’m sure there’s a GoApe nearby, not to mention the walk to the major oak.

Oops, didn’t read that you couldn’t walk so far.

The Great Central Railway has steam engine rides and several model railways.
Green’s Windmill and Science Centre
Wollaton Hall and Park. There are a couple of cafes, a good play area, deer in the park, an interesting Natural History collection in the House and gardens to explore.
City of Caves
Stonebridge City Farm

White post farm!

Clumber Park - National Trust. You might not be up for walking but if you're already members it has a cafe with lovely views of the lake. Probably wouldn't bother if you're not members as main attraction is walking by the lake!

Rufford Abbey is just over the road, and good for an hour or two. The play area is amazing, and there is a Ford at the far end which we just stand and watch the cars drive through.

Echo White Post Farm - they might even have baby lambs by now, (although the first are always reported in local paper and haven't seen any yet). WPF is very hands on, child friendly.
Clumber Park is beautiful, just to sit or walk. Imagine a brooding Lord Bryon strutting about the place!
Rufford Park, again parkland to walk in, really nice cafe and small courtyard with a few shops. Plenty of grass to run and race about on for the children.
In Edwinstowe there is a courtyard thing of small shops, and cafe. Carpark just across the road by the cricket pitch. Toilets there also!
You can get to the Major Oak from there but it is a quite a walk. Decent paths though
There is a bit more forest called Sherwood Pines, nearby to Centre Parcs but I suspect you'd quite like to leave the pine trees behind for a bit!
* I seem obsessed with cafes! Not really. DH had life changing surgery last summer, to keep us both sane as he's recovered his mobility we've got out as much as possible and so have sat in most cafes in Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire.😂

Oh and depending on the age of your kids, there's a little railway/train at Edwinstowe.

BettysMom · 03/04/2019 08:01

Depending on the age of any children, look at Wheelgate Activity Park - 15 mins away and like a theme park for the U10s!

There is Sherwood Pines forest park - it has a go ape, bike trails and a play area I think.
