Does anyone else do this? (British Problems...)

My bin is collected on a Monday and whenever I go to take it back round the back after they have been, I always open the lid and feel a little frisson of relief that we didn't break any of the 'bin rules' and they did actually empty it rather than leaving it full in disgust and driving onwards! I don't think I've ever not had my bin collected for this reason, but I still get that 'live to see another bin week' feeling when I see it's empty.

Is this just me? Does anyone else have weird little things like this?

Nope!

Toothlessismyspiritanimal · 02/04/2019 21:38

Me! I always peer tentatively inside first Grin

Sonny23 · 02/04/2019 21:39

I always have a sneak peek before lugging it back up my drive Grin

JaretsGirlfren · 02/04/2019 21:39

Oh OP that is really quite sweet! Grin

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 02/04/2019 22:33

Oh, glad other people peep in as well!

I seem to be (unofficially) in charge of monitoring whether our three big industrial bins of recycling and general waste get collected at work.

I am FD, and all this random stuff heads my way..

I am always happy when the bin lorry drives past my window on Wednesdays :)

CookPassBabtridge · 02/04/2019 22:35

Tis strange, I've never had it not collected and bins round here get taken even when overfilled.. but I still get the relief 😂

Ellieboolou27 · 02/04/2019 22:37

Our bins are collected fortnightly- I totally peek and sigh relief

countdowntonap · 02/04/2019 22:37

Yes, I feel relief at passing the bin rules, like I feel relief for passing the shopping rules when the alarm doesn’t go off as I walk out with my fully paid for purchase Grin

I check, not because of bin rules but quite often the lorry hasn't been round, or not by the time I get home from work.

cloudymelonade · 02/04/2019 22:59

I totally do this.
I also have a very British battle with my neighbour every week as we quite often put their bin out for them and they also sometimes put ours out. But how early is too early to put someone else's bin out in order to win this week's race of 'who is the kindest neighbour'?!

safariboot · 03/04/2019 01:19

I look, but that's less because of rules and more because Birmingham's binmen seem to spend half their time on strike.

BitOfFun · 03/04/2019 01:38

I understand the feeling. I get it when I ask for cash at the ATM Grin

PyongyangKipperbang · 03/04/2019 01:45

Oh the panic of wondering if your bin will be left because you have a millimetre of bin bag poking out.....and the sheer relief that it has been emptied!

It never bothered me until I was a lone parent and had to do bin duty:o

PyongyangKipperbang · 03/04/2019 01:47

The idea of going to the cashpoint without knowing, to the penny, how much is in your account is making me feel very stressed! Genuinely feeling very twitchy at the idea of worrying whether the machine will give you cash or not! In the world of banking apps, etc how on earth could you not know?!

Ploppymoodypants · 03/04/2019 02:18

cloudlymelonade 😁🤣

Is that still going on? I was there early last year (or even 2017!?) and the whole place looked like something from the worst bit of the seventies. You poor things, paying your council tax to a council who can't resolve an industrial dispute over the length of time!

Saying that, those purple monstrosities bins in Liverpool are eyesores all year every year.

I wonder if anywhere has really unobtrusive bins?

bloodywhitecat · 03/04/2019 03:36

I look but because no bugger seems to know what day our bin is collected on. It is one of the joys of living rurally is that we fall between two bin runs. Sometimes round A collects and sometimes round B does but then sometimes no-one collects our bin so we have to call for a special collection.

lyralalala · 03/04/2019 03:49

I get that. I also get the same feeling when my PIN is accepted when I'm paying for something.

ExpletiveDelighted · 03/04/2019 11:42

Surely the cash machine thing is not about how much money you've got in your account but whether it will give you £40 when you've asked for £50 or whatever. If you don't have a banking app you can always check the balance at the cashpoint before withdrawing.

DeathyMcDeathStarFace · 03/04/2019 12:48

I check the bin has been emptied when it gets to the back door, even though I checked it was done before bringing it through the back gate in the first place and could tell it was light when moving it. I can always feel it is heavy when wheeling it out and light when wheeling it back again, but I always double (or even triple) check when it is returned to its home.

Also check I have the right bin more than once, even though it is obvious which one is ours as it has big numbers on the front. But I don't want anyone thinking I am stealing their bin and I don't want anyone taking ours.
