What's the hungriest you have ever been?

Just finishing up dinner, feeling lucky that a) there was enough food in the cupboards to be able to cobble together something without going out as I'm struggling with fatigue today b) I'm well enough to eat unlike some friends with different chronic illnesses and c) I have enough money for food in general!

Hungriest I've ever been was as a child in hospital for a week after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Really unwell but also very hungry after my body had been deprived of energy for so long when I was getting sick, and on a strict regime that needed the details working out. When I was allowed out for a few hours, we went to the cinema and the smell of the popcorn was torture, as I was starving. I was so grumpy Grin

Pregnant with ds1, living in a squat at 7 months and too proud to go back to my parents . Boyfriend was abusive so i saw very little money.
I scraped enough to buy a tin of French onion soup and a roll, heated it on a camping stove I'd got. Still remains the best meal I've ever had as I'd been so very very desperate for it.
The light was seen shortly after that, I went home to a very relieved mum and neither ds nor I ever saw the bastard again.

Some nights when I'm rifling through the full freezer trying to decide what to cook i think of that tin of soup and I'm bloody grateful for my life.

When I was 16 and left an abusive home. I ate roughly every other day but only one meal a day which was often cornflakes. Wasn’t pleasant, but, the best I can say about that period of time is, it didn’t kill me. I’m very fortunate now but that period of life certainly helps with the empathy levels I can feel for others today.

Ran out of money in the second semester of Uni.

I had 16p a day. I remember choosing between a sardine or a potato.

Obviously after Christmas so luckily my mum gad given me half the Christmas cake - which I hate. But kept me going until March.

I remember being starving and anxious because I actually had no way of eating well. But I look good in the photos because I lost so much weight.

As a child I was often deprived of food as a punishment.
I had been starved for 3 day and I went through the bin and found a rotten onion.
I shared it with my brother.

Sorry to hear of the situations some posters have been in.

When I was a teen I starved myself for 5 days. Then I could feel myself slowly passing out so I had some tomato soup.

Early teens. Growing, growing and having to wait to be paid from my paper round each week. I got £5.90 per week. The cheapest school lunch was 90p for an egg sandwich. Sometimes I would queue and they would all be gone so I’d have to leave it and go to the supermarket after school so I could have some dinner.

It was a kind of cumulative hunger.

November last year, I was 2months pregnant and in a constant state of nausea, even cooking dinner for my oh had me gagging, struggled to keep anything down other than water and rich tea biscuits for almost 2 weeks. In the end I was so hungry I felt sick, but I couldn't eat because I would bring it all back up... My appetite hasn't fully recovered but I think that's more a mental block than anything

Back in my wild days I went to a music festival and my friend and I managed to consume an ounce of cocaine between us in 3 days Shock we didn’t eat or sleep the whole time, just drank and snorted.

I lost ten pound and it took me weeks to feel normal again. Makes me feel funny thinking about it now.

A few years ago money was really tight, so I kept to a strict food budget. Weekly shop done on a Saturday, so not much in the house Friday. I always had lunch and tea (we've never had large meals though), but snacks left were literally a biscuit, piece of fruit. I went without so DD had something on returning from school.
