Another vote for Hoppa

You can share a mini van with them which is great if you're fairly near to the accommodation or if further away, you just tolerate other drop offs and a slightly longer journey.

Depends where you’re going

Where we go in Greece, a lot of the websites charge £50pp return for a taxi but we know on the rank outside the airport the taxis are around €18

I’d tend to look at tripadvisor forums first, as the posters will have local knowledge

Asta19 · 02/04/2019 19:55

I’ve travelled quite a lot and I would say that the majority of places I have been have either a train or shuttle bus to the nearest city centre. I tend to google in advance so for example, “Berlin airport to city centre” and it tells you. I really begrudge spending money on taxis!

mysteryfairy · 04/04/2019 08:12

Also depending on your destination and plans it can be cheaper/ comparable to just hire a car which then gives you the freedom to go out and about.

BarbaraofSevillle · 04/04/2019 09:17

Depends on where you're going, what luggage you have, whether you'll want access to a car when you're there, if you can park a car near to your accomodation, availability of public transport, whether cost or convenience is a factor, all sorts really.

Often you can get a public bus from outside the airport to many resorts and city centres.

Sometimes car hire for a week will be less than the cost of a round trip in a taxi or booked transfer and you then have the car to go on trips and the supermarket if self catering. Car also useful on last day if flight is in the evening, as you can leave all your luggage in the car while you go out and about for the day.

But maybe you don't want to drive on holiday, or parking will be expensive or limited if in a city.

bananamonkey · 04/04/2019 11:13

Also recommend Hoppa or Terravision if you’re travelling in Europe

notacooldad · 04/04/2019 11:18

Taxi
God no! not always.
A quote for a taxi from airport to city was once 6 x the price of the flight.
I go on Google maps and get the airport Express or train.
Some hotels do airport shuttle but check how much they charge.

MulderitsmeX · 04/04/2019 16:31

Car seats i bring my own which yes is a massive hassle! Lots of people hire but im paranoid!

You can get back pack type things to store them in or tie them on a luggage trolley.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 04/04/2019 17:18

Depends where you are and where you're going. I usually get the bus or the train. Don't think I've ever got a taxi.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 04/04/2019 17:19

Last time I walked - I was in Nice and you can walk to the airport along the sea front. It took me about an hour but I only had a small rucksack of hand luggage so it was fine.

BarbaraofSevillle · 04/04/2019 17:31

You can also walk to and from Legoland from the airport in Billund, takes about half an hour I think. Not as nice as a seafront stroll next to the Med of course.

DPotter · 04/04/2019 17:33

Public transport from airports is often quicker and cheaper than taxis, especially for cities.

StereophonicallyChallenged · 04/04/2019 17:35

We use Hoppa or Travel Republic depending on who has the best price. Both let you book by flight arrival so no worries if you're delayed Smile

gettofuckthrees · 04/04/2019 17:39

Resort Hoppa

StereophonicallyChallenged · 04/04/2019 17:40

Also, agree about trains being best in some places, cities etc. Makes you realise how crap they are on the UK when you get an airport train from Bangkok!
Nearly £20 (advanced non refundable) from Paddington to Heathrow.
Not even £1 for a fast train, no booking needed, into downtown Bangkok!! Nice trains and easier to transfer in and out of the airport with cases than Heathrow too!

Mumsybumble · 18/04/2019 17:01

I don't recommend taxis at the airport. After having previous bad experiences with taxis outside the airport including being ripped off, we now try and book a transfer so its waiting for us when we arrive. That way we know in advance how much it will cost and we can make sure we have the correct cash available. www.solhop.com are good. We were able to tell them how many child seats we needed in advance too, which is something you won't be able to do if you just get a taxi from outside the airport.

BobBobBobbingAlong · 18/04/2019 17:57

It depends entirely where you are going and how much you are carrying. We always try to use public transport as far as we can, but some places have rubbish public transport.

Airport taxis are usually more expensive. There isn't always an alternative but it's worth looking it up in advance and booking if required. Make sure you know the local rules. The airport website can be a good place to start.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 18/04/2019 18:01

I book through holiday extras.
Do a bit of googling and you can usually find a discount code.

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 18/04/2019 18:03

Depends where I am, I usually get a bus or if it's in a city then the underground/whatever public transport they have.

If I'm within Europe I just think taxis are too expensive

Soontobe60 · 18/04/2019 18:05

Which airport are you going to?

GreenTulips · 18/04/2019 18:07

Type transfer from x to y and they give inline quotes
Check distance via google if not for taxi might be cheaper
You he travel agents do exactly the same thing with the same companies

InceyWinceyette · 18/04/2019 19:01

Some popular destinations have independent shuttle services.

For example in Lanzarote a company called FirstMinute that runs airport shuttles to and from the main resorts and will go to your hotel.

InceyWinceyette · 18/04/2019 19:04

And ask on MN for details for the actual place you are going!

The Tripadvisor discussion destination forums are useful for this sort of thing, too.

FluffySocks123 · 18/04/2019 19:06

Hoppa
Or this time I hired a car

DisplayPurposesOnly · 18/04/2019 19:08

I look in the guide book, airport website and or TripAdvisor to see what the options are.

Generally I do a taxi from airport to accommodation, cos I'm a bit stressed and unsettled. I tend to get public transport on the return when I'm more in the swing of things.
