Cooking salmon in a dishwasher. I have Googled and I imagine it is a good way to steam it.

Jesusgod I’ve heard it all.

Yes but don't try putting your dirty dishes in the washing machine.

mrsm43s · 02/04/2019 21:16

I haven't, but I'm not conceptually against the idea.

However, I have a huge fish kettle (catering size?) that I picked up in a charity shop for £4, which sits across two rings and poaches salmon to perfection, so I have no need to try it out.

I once did Jamie O’s Sea Bass baked in salt. It set like a concrete carapace around it and we had to use an electric drill to get it out.

SoleBizzz · 02/04/2019 23:25

I am going to try it and post pics here.

Yes, works well for if you want to have a whole cooked salmon on display.

It'd be mummified by the time my dishwasher has finished.

And my oven is 90cm wide, anyhow. I prefer salmon baked to poached, particularly the fatty farmed stuff.

safariboot · 03/04/2019 01:17

No way.

I don't wanna break the dishwasher.

The water temp on the regular cycle is only 55 C or so. That salmon's going to be spending ages in the "danger zone" for bacteria growth.

Our oven is bigger than our dishwasher anyway. Unless I'm supposed to hang the salmon up on end.

PyongyangKipperbang · 03/04/2019 01:51

I wouldnt. Why would you?

The cost of running the dishwasher purely for the salmon is ridiculously high, and I wouldnt trust my foil sealing skills to pop it in with pots as a) I wouldnt want fishy juice on my washing up and b) I wouldnt want my fish marinated in Finish.

10 minutes in the oven or a pan is surely much easier and cheaper and quicker?!

I once cooked roast chicken in a small pottery kiln. Was wonderful and after removal I wacked the temperature up a hundred degrees or so and the kiln cleaned itself... I merely tell you this as I don't have a dishwasher and was intrigued by the thread Grin

floribunda18 · 03/04/2019 14:33

Why would you? It takes 2 minutes in a microwave and not very long in an oven or griddle pan, and poaching it is very quick. I wouldn't want my dishwasher to smell of steamed fish.

In fact, raw salmon is also very nice.

MaybeDoctor · 03/04/2019 14:56

I honestly prefer to cook fillets.

But didn’t there used to be something about cooking food in the engine bay of your car, so that you could have a nice picnic on arrival? Grin
