What would you bring to a friend in hospital?

Looking for some suggestions, please!

A very good friend of mine and DH has been involved in a terrible accident. He's going to be okay, but he was intensive care for a few days, and will be laid up in hospital for much longer. Broken loads of ribs, pelvis, and his dominant arm.

We live approx 200 miles from the hospital he's currently in, but we're going to visit this weekend.

He's obviously laid up and bored out of his mind. What would you bring to him in a gift basket in this scenario? I've never visited anyone staying long term on a ward before, so not sure what to get. He's mid-thirties, and quite laddish.

Thank you for anyone who can help with some suggestions.

Might he crave fresh fruit and veg? Hospital meals aren't healthy. In which case a few fresh fruit might be welcome. I remember the weirdness of my landlord having popped to Morrison's on his way to visit and he'd bought me a couple of apples, banana and oranges. Actually, after a couple of days boy did I enjoy them!

and chocolate and treats obv

I was in for several months and the long charger and power bank are fab ideas. Snacks, sweets, lip balm definitely. Maybe a few small bottles of fizzy juice and long life fruit juice for a change from squash.

I also appreciated my own pillow, decent sachets of coffee and good teabags. Staff were more than happy to use them to make my hot drinks. Oh, and loo roll. Hospital loo roll is awful and if you're in for a while you really appreciate the good stuff! Maybe some wipes as well?

The offer to take clothes home to wash and bring them back if possible. ( where are you staying when visiting?)
Just someone different to talk to is great. Have lots of things to talk about ( latest footy game, news items etc)
Great idea about voucher for the coffee place
Hope he recovers quickly

Tissues and wet wipes (and maybe some bum wipes) maybe some personal care items deodorant etc. Is he confined to bed? Once spent a week on total bed rest and the bum wipes were much appreciated. Only in early thirties and having to use bed pans was ShockBlush. If there for a while you could visit and see what he needs and then go and shop and come back for the next visting time
