How much oil do you put in your pan when frying onions?

I have a sneaking suspicion I don't use enough oil & I'd like to compare notes. Somehow my oil always 'evaporates' away. I put a blob in my pan about the size of a jam-jar lid. I've got a very decent non-stick frying pan but it still seems to need more oil than I use. How do you lot do it?

I only use a little bit of oil, teaspoon maybe and if it sticks I add water.

Depends what for. Can you elaborate ?

I use a similar size amount to you. I don’t have the pan too hot and stir as soon as onions hit pan and find it’s ok. Also on master chef they once added a splash of (wine) vinegar to onions (can’t remember why!) so I sometimes do that.

I add water

If you get one of those JML Copperstone pans you don't need any at all and they still taste bloody good. If you like a little grease then a spray of that cooking oil spray is more than enough. I'm not dieting or anything, but those pans are tricking amazing.

*fricking amazing.

About a teaspoon, add water if they start to stick, they take about 25-30 mins

Just a splash. Then cook them for waaaaaay longer and lower than any recipe tells you.
