Can I salvage my mouldy pushchair?

We have a mclaren pushchair which was fairly pricey to buy. I've just gone out to the garage and it's covered in mould. I could remove the covers and wash them. I could also disinfect where the mould is on the handles. Would this be sufficient or does it need to be thrown away? Thanks.

Yes all of that. Definitely worth trying to salvage it before buying new. I've done similar with car seats from the attic.

Wash it you’ve nothing to lose and it’ll probably be fine

You'll never get rid of the marks that are left, even when the actual mould is gone. I tried everything from cilit bang to lemon juice to sunlight on my buggy seat (pale grey and red). It looked bloody awful. In the end I found a small place that did refurbs on prams and pushchairs etc. They put a new seat on for me at a fraction of buying a new one.

I couldn’t get rid of the smell on mine. Thought I had but lent it to my sister and was so embarrassed when dn came back after a walk smelling all mildewy Blush

prettyhibiscusflowers · 31/03/2019 16:49

You could have it professionally cleaned. There are companies offering cleaning specifically for prams/pushchairs.

notharryssally · 31/03/2019 16:49

I wouldn't tbh. Mould is bad for health and you're putting a small baby in it.

I'd wash with some vinegar, to make sure any mould is killed off. Can't see why a few stains should pose any sort of danger, although they don't look great.

Maclaren do sell replacement seats, might be an option if the rest of it is still in good shape. [https://www.maclaren.uk/replacement-parts?lang=en]

Not mould no. I just wouldn’t want my dc breathing in any spores

I got rid of mould on a tricycle canopy by soaking in a bath of hot water with a liberal dose of napisan granules. Kept topping up the granules and hot water then left overnight. All mouldy patches went and never came back.

DonPablo · 31/03/2019 19:11

Can you buy a new seat insert?

CallMeRachel · 31/03/2019 19:16

You can remove the mould using Dettol Mould & Mildew remover spray

Just do put buggy outside on a fair dry day, spray all over the fabric and other areas affected and let it soak in for a few hours.
Then hose thoroughly to rinse the chemicals away. When dried it should be completely clean.

I've cleaned up a few mouldy buggy's using this method so it definitely works.

@CallMeRachel Thank you, thank you, thank you! You just saved my pram. Amazing results and no scrubbing!

CallMeRachel · 01/04/2019 21:19

Yay!! Great news! It's magic stuff

duckme · 01/04/2019 21:21

Have you tried Milton steriliser fluid? It got mould out of our old canvas tent.

PFB2 · 02/04/2019 13:25

I've just dettol sprayed mine. Only thing worrying me is the bottle of fertility mould & mildew remover says on it "contains active bleach". Will the bleach not stain the pushchair?

It hasn't dyed it 😅 just got to let it dry and see how it looks but so far so good 😊
