Best period pants?

BellaBearisWideAwake · 31/03/2019 16:08

FB is targeting me with adverts for period pants. I'm not sure what it is that I've written, or what algorithm is causing this, but it's working.

Can anyone recommend a good brand? Or warn me away from a bad one?

Comparisons and reviews of most of the main brands here

BellaBearisWideAwake · 31/03/2019 17:48

Thanks, that's helpful

I really love my Thinx, they’ve been worth every penny. I use them with a Mooncup on heavy days so now my periods are completely free of single use plastics and I never worry about leaking, it’s so liberating.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 31/03/2019 17:58

Appreciate the recommendation thank you

I have both WUKA and Modibodi. The WUKA ones are really comfortable and I've not experienced leaking (I have a very heavy flow for the first few days). I don't like the Modibodi's they're uncomfortable and so they make me feel grumpy; I'm on my period now and currently wearing the bloody Modibodi's. I should have returned them. Lots of people seem to like the Modibodi's, though.

Do you rinse them, and then add to a normal load of laundry? Or do you wash them separately?

(Looking for personal advice here, rather than what's on promotional websites if that makes sense)

Thanks professorrapson

I rinse them out in the sink and then they go in the washing machine with other laundry - you can't use fabric conditioner.

NightmareLoon · 31/03/2019 18:09

I keep meaning to look into this as I'm being heavily advertised to as well, but as I have a sizeable backside I want to avoid wedgies! I can't use my normal washables while cycling though, so it'd be good to have a couple of pairs.

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 31/03/2019 18:45

I hand wash mine in the bathroom sink, it’s really not as much faff as it sounds though - takes 5 minutes and they’re still in perfect condition.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 31/03/2019 19:03

Hand wash only, do you mean?
I'm going to buy a pair of WUKA.
Thanks everyone.

How is the sizing? I really hate tight things on my belly esp overnight

BigbreastsBiggerbeard · 31/03/2019 19:35

What's the sizing like with the WUKA? Do they come op large, small or average?

BellaBearisWideAwake · 07/04/2019 13:25

The website says they come up big. I've just got mine, I'm a 14, they're a 14, I would say a little big but not loose. Glad I didn't go for 12.

I've just received mine, took a chance on sizing. I'm between 12 and 14 in clothes but prefer good coverage in pants, so ordered a 14, Just right. Would have preferred a boy short option (these are a bikini) but they are good coverage so looking forward to trying them out!

PCohle · 07/04/2019 13:53

I've tried them (Thinx) and didn't love them to be honest. They're fine as a back up product or if you have a very light flow but once they're full you're a bit stuck.

I filled a pair quicker than I had expected whilst out and about and it's not terribly convenient to have to take off your pants, find a plastic bag to carry them around in and locate another form of sanitary protection whilst going commando Grin

I also find them a bit sort of sweaty (ugh sorry).

FurrySlipperBoots · 07/04/2019 14:02

@PCohle

How do you know when they're 'full'? I guess they're pretty much black or very dark colours aren't they? I use a mooncup but still need pads too - they're essential for the first couple of days but I'm hoping period pants will work ok for the last few days. I don't know how you're supposed to tell if they're working effectively or not unless you find you're actually leaking and marking your clothes or whatever, which would be horrible!

PCohle · 07/04/2019 14:19

For me it was actual leakage but there's also a wet feel/ general saturation like with pads. As you say it is harder to tell when you're reaching that point than with pads because of the black colour. The pants definitely aren't as endlessly absorbent as I had expected!
