Cleaning bathrooms - a very dull question

Mississippilessly · 31/03/2019 11:59

Every week I give the bathroom s good clean - I dont use a loo brush so use rubber gloves to clean the loo. But doni just chuck them away after each use?! Where could I store them thats not gross?!

Can you not just bleach or disinfect them afterwards and then put them in an empty bucket.

onestitchaway · 31/03/2019 12:34

I soak them in some bleach or zoflora, dry them out and store them in a zip lock bag

crashbangwhoosh · 31/03/2019 12:49

Give them a good 'hand wash' with fairy after (and before washing the sink!) then store them in a plastic bowl with other cleaning equipment?

INeedNewShoes · 31/03/2019 12:53

I give them a good swish in the now clean slightly bleachy water in the toilet bowl and store them on the pipe behind the toilet.

I then only use those gloves for cleaning the toilet (but not the top or the flush button - I use the same cloth as the rest of the bathroom for that)

Mississippilessly · 31/03/2019 13:10

Behind the pipes is probably the easiest one to do - thank you!

Just got all 3 bathrooms done, infuse a sponge and then do the toilets last and then chuck the sponge. Just realised I forgot the shower heads Blush

  • I use. Not infuse.

U throw away a sponge a week! Not very environmentally friendly. Could you not ask for better ways to clean the toilet?

Mississippilessly · 31/03/2019 13:23

Seriously? One a week? I'd have thought it was far worse for the environment if I was chucking bleach down the loo everyday?!

Buy a loo brush.

Mississippilessly · 31/03/2019 13:31

I use a loo brush in the week but the toilet is a really awkward shape - its almost square. The brush cant get into the corners.

OP posts:
TheCraicDealer · 31/03/2019 13:33

Ours is the same- it's almost a U shape and square at the back. You need a Jospeh Joseph toilet brush, it's flat so gets into the corners.

VanGoghsDog · 31/03/2019 14:41

Yeah, I love my Joseph Joseph 'brush', it's fab!

INeedNewShoes · 31/03/2019 15:30

I keep a microfibre cloth on that pipe behind the toilet as well for cleaning it. Generally once a week use it to clean the toilet with a bit of bleach. Use the loo brush in between times if necessary.

Soontobe60 · 31/03/2019 15:41

I use microfibres cloths for the bathroom. Spray the shower, sink and outside loo with cleaner, put bleach down the loo with brush in the bowl, sweep the floor and wipe down the walls round the loo and sink using the cloth and some zoflora.
Clean the toilet, scrub and flush, leave brush in with a drop more bleach.
Clean shower, take brush out. Job done.

Mississippilessly · 31/03/2019 16:24

I have the Joseph Joseph one. I was so excited about it ( dear Lord) but still no good. Sad

We have a load of cheap cotton dishcloths that are rinsed after use, soaked in a very weak bleach solution overnight and then dried. All get washed at the end of the week.

Oldraver · 31/03/2019 16:28

Yes I give them a good clean and store on the big toilet waste at the back.

I also use a washing up brush instead of a standard toilet brush

Blackandpurple · 31/03/2019 17:48

I have a loo brush. Shock as MN users think they are disgusting. Mine is clean, bleached and kept hehind the loo in its bleached water.

And i still have friends, they’ve seen it!

Springiscomingsoon · 31/03/2019 19:44

I have a loo brush as well Shock!
One sponge a week is 52 sponges a year.
You don't have to use bleach either - look for some Ecover toilet cleaner.

Mississippilessly · 01/04/2019 08:21

Right inspired by this thread I am ditching all the sponges. I've ordered new dishcloths and some microfibre cloths. Going to use a dishcloth a day then in the wash. Microfibre to clean the bathrooms and a separate one to clean the loos, which I will rinse out with the flush of the loo and keep behind the pipe with the rubber gloves. Am hoping it won't drip?

Next question: highchair. Baby has just started weaning. Can I use the same dishcloth or does it need to.be separate?

OP posts:
Blackandpurple · 01/04/2019 10:50

I use microfibres.

All colours but:
Blue for loo
Pink for kitchen sink
Green for screen (glass etc)

VanGoghsDog · 01/04/2019 15:02

Btw - if your loo is that bad, do you live in a very hard water area, if so, it may be scale causing it so it might be worth using a good descaler rather than things like bleach.

Springiscomingsoon · 01/04/2019 18:59
