Prescription sunglasses - have I been done?

How much have you paid?

Just ordered some today. Frames were £140, fine, my choice, Ray Ban, Jackie Ohh. But the lenses were another £170. Not complex lenses, but did include reflective or something which was £35 of it. They’re not Ray Ban’s own ones (with the writing on), those would’ve cost £270 for the lenses.

I just ordered some today - Maui Jim frames were £165 but my lenses are super complex - was £520 all in 😫 such a lot of money but I need sunglasses - will have to treat them like gold dust!

So yours sound about right to me x

RandomMess · 30/03/2019 20:35

Mine were around £150 from boots with varifocal lenses... think the frames were at least nearly half the cost.

TotalNoob · 30/03/2019 20:37

You should have ordered from glassesdirect.co.uk. Fab service and a fraction of the price.

Mine were from Asda - £150 for my regular glasses and the sunglasses including varifocal, thinned lenses, antireflective, and prisms

Hmm, thanks. With glasses direct, they don’t fit them to your face though do they? Or you have to measure yourself which I have never felt confident with - that’s why I avoided online sellers anyway.

I get mine from Specsavers, buy one get one free. So I pay for a pair of single vision glasses and get presription sunglasses free. Last time I think my total cost for both was close to £100. I'm due to get tested again so may need new ones.

guessmyusername · 30/03/2019 22:12

I got mine free with my glasses

you are wasting your money with an anti reflection coating on your sunnies

tinted lenses cut down the light, and the antireflection allows more light through the lens, one or the other, anyone advising both is suckering you for the money.
(some hi index lenses will come with both, due to specific manufacturing issues but generally A/R plus tint is not something any reputable place should be encouraging)

also best option for sun specs is a polarising lens of some type, cuts out way more glare and brightness than your bog standard tint.
