Minor sacrifices we make for our DC....

DH and I were meant to go out with friends tonight, while DC had a fun sleepover elsewhere. DS2 has now developed poorliness at the 11th hour (stomachache and general malaise), so I have reluctantly taken one for the team and volunteered to stay in with him while DH goes out to meet friends (we have the event tickets). Sigh.

So I'm currently sitting here watching the Lego Movie with poorly-yet-cute DS2. Please entertain me with your own tales of noble self-sacrifice towards your own DC...

My money
Lots of my time
My sanity
My waistline
My neat and tidy house
My job/career
A few of my books
A couple of my favourite stuffed animals
My favourite cup (the one with the beach huts on) got smashed the other week

Beaches I empathise re the mug. I had a perfect shaped, perfect sized, red and white stripy coffee mug that was exactly right for a double coffee and hot milk from my fancy coffee machine.

It got smashed when the DC were fighting and it got knocked off the table. I lost it - I ranted like a fishwife about how I had nothing for myself anymore except my favourite coffee mug. I still mourn the loss of that coffee mug.

I spent an hour watching my dd having a horse riding lesson today (and every Saturday for the last 2 years). I gave up riding as I can’t afford for us both to do it.

I was a minimalist.

Say no more.

edwinbear I said pretty much the same thing! I took my children back to the shop where I got it from but they no longer sell it. I looked on Amazon and even they don't sell it. Gutted!

I now have a BFG one but I swear that my tea doesn't taste the same in it. Humph.

Purple bear. He was my Christmas present for my last Christmas before ds1 was born in the January, about two foot tall and a lovely deep shade of my favourite colour - purple. He was then 'adopted' by said ds a couple of years later.

After ds2 came along he decided he loved him too so we bought a dog (stuffed, not real) ds1 liked for him and suggested ds1 give ds2 the bear as a Christmas present that year, so purple bear became ds2s.

He was a comforter through being sick (guess who cleaned him) and had to have face and chest stitches (guess who is the stand-in surgeon).

I had a faint hope when ds's grew older I would get purple bear back as they lost interest, but no, ds2 is 16 now and purple bear still finds his way into ds's bed every night. I guess I will have to say goodbye to purple bear until ds moves out and purple bear doesn't make it into his packing boxes.

My midsection and pelvic floor, that little monkey vandalised those by living in me and being massive and unweildy from prebirth. He also absolutely put paid to my stomach muscles and what was a previously flat and taut tummy Grin

Not sharing food, he could have anything he wanted and he still chooses whatever it is I'm eating to desperately need to taste.

He's so worth it Grin

I've just been puked over by DS. We both needed a shower after that. Still trying to get him back to sleep. This has happened way too often recently.

My dignity. Repeatedly.

  • Vomiting and peeing my pants at the same time in front of dh because dd was wedged so far down from quite early on and the all day morning sickness lasted right up to her arrival.
  • having my underwear described in detail ("green knickers today mummy. But not pretty ones, no they not the pretty ones") as we painstakingly made our way down the communal apartment steps with a backlog of neighbors behind us.
  • having my every action narrated loudly in public toilets on a regular basis.
Gotta love her though 😂
