Are you a light sleeper? Help!!!!

I am a ridiculously light sleeper it’s not even funny anymore.

The slightest sound Wakes me up. And I really struggle to get back to sleep again. I have had five hours sleep in two days. And am so tired. Even my husband turning over in bed wakes me up.

I know most people use ear plugs. But I have tinnitus and all that does is made the ringing in my ears louder.

How do you cope with being a light sleeper. Is there anything I can do to change this.

You need a white noise machine! I never sleep without it know. Or a fan. But the machine plays a range of different things like fan, wind or just white noise.

Yes light sleeper too. I’ve got no answers just sharing the pain.

FriedFoodFreud · 30/03/2019 18:02

I have a white noise machine, ear plugs (I know you don’t want to try them but the combo of ear plugs and noise machine is somehow better than one or the other), and I also put a pillow on my head.

I have sound cancelling headphones that I wear in bed. Comfy enough to sleep in.

White noise, white noise, white noise! I used to be full on 'eye mask, earplugs' but actually I sleep better with white noise.

I really sympathise, my husband has a cough just now and it's murder. and my son is the same, he's been the worst sleeping baby I've ever come across and it's just because he hears everything.

Oh. Never done white noise before. If u have it on do you keep it on all night. Is this a headphones in the ear kind of thing or just on ur phone next to your bed ?

You need this

www.actiononhearingloss.org.uk/shop/tinnitus-products/l536-headwaters-s-680-02-tinnitus-sound-therapy-system/

Action on hearing loss in the shop, tinnitus products. Get some speakers that go under the pillow too. I have tinnitus and this keeps me sane. I find I can usually wear am earplug in one ear and have my other ear listening to the noise. Hope this helps. Tinnitus is horrible.

I use these speakers

Sleep in separate beds- doesn't have to be all the time, but oh it makes such a difference .

Also, work out any triggers, eg alcohol, caffeine, bed time. I found for example that going to bed an hour later made a big, positive, difference

Pastaallday · 30/03/2019 18:52

We keep our white noise on all night. It's just plugged in next to the bed. It's amazing. Blocks out all the little noises you'd normally hear.

redeyetonowheregood · 30/03/2019 19:53

I second sleeping separately sometimes. About two nights a week my husband sleeps in the spare room.

bathorshower · 30/03/2019 20:01

White noise (on all night) and DH in the spare room. I'm not very nice when I'm tired....

FriedFoodFreud · 30/03/2019 21:10

I have the Lectrofan machine, it’s great. Really small so easy to travel with.

tomhazard · 30/03/2019 21:13

I am the lightest sleeper ever. I find this time of year particularly awful as I live near the say and the seagulls get cracking at 4.45am. I can hear my children cough even though they sleep on a different floor! If I didn't have dcs I would use ear plugs but I fear not hearing them in an emergency. No suggestions but solidarity

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 30/03/2019 21:14

Seperate beds

JugzyMalone · 30/03/2019 21:25

Try a weighted blanket as well

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/03/2019 21:32

There are speakers designed to be slept on (I just remove the earplug from the ear I am sleeping on) and I rely on an app that plays rain sounds of different types. I am a light sleeper since the birth of my first child 18 years ago.
