Have I ruined my pillows?

I had to wash my new feather pillows after a toddler vomiting nightmare. Now they stink! I've washed them and hung them out for a couple of days and they still smell vile. Should I bin them or is there any rescuing them?

Bin

Windygate · 30/03/2019 18:10

No rescuing them, sorry. One of my DC is a nose bleed champion so I always buy synthetic and washable pillows

Ylvamoon · 30/03/2019 18:13

Bin... I have those water proof allergy covers for our pillows. They are great and a lifesaver!

Aw no. I was hoping someone would have some magical stink cure. I love(d) my pillows.

Will definitely look into some toddler proof covers for the next lot.

I washed mine a week ago. They smelt damp afterwards. Gutted I had to buy new.
I have washed them successfully in the past

Bluetrews25 · 30/03/2019 18:33

You could try one more wash with a biological powder (which will digest the smelly stuff, allegedly) then a long, cool tumble,
Do they smell musty or pukey?
That should sort both - it's worth a try for nice pillows.

Wallywobbles · 30/03/2019 18:36

I've machine washed my down pillows a lot. Tumble dry for ages on multiple stages. Don't smell.

sonlypuppyfat · 30/03/2019 18:37

You have to dry them straight away in the tumble dryer with a few tennis balls

goldpendant · 30/03/2019 18:50

Stick them over some hot radiators. It was the last chance for mine when I thought I'd ruined them but it worked. The feathers will eventually dry out completely

sleepwhenimred · 30/03/2019 20:25

We don't have a tumble drier sadly. I will try one last wash with bio powder and drying on the radiators and keep my fingers crossed.

They smell really musty. It's awful. Airing them helped a little bit they are still completely unusable.

I really couldn't cope without a tumble dryer

IncrediblySadToo · 30/03/2019 20:29

Do you have a laundrette near by? Their massive dryers would probably do wonders for them.

goldpendant · 30/03/2019 21:09

Yes, or a laundrette!

TheMarbleFaun · 30/03/2019 21:15

Feather pillows need to be tumble dried straight after washing (it should say that on the label)

edwinbear · 30/03/2019 21:29

Take them to the launderette and get them service washed. They willl be fine.

sparkli · 30/03/2019 21:34

Feather pillows must be tumble dryed or they will smell. Take them to the launderette. Will be cheaper than replacing them!
