Help me with my anxiety

Has anyone tried anything that works well for anxiety... tightness in chest/abdomen and racing heart? I'm already halfway through prescription vitamin d of 50000 iu once a week for 8 weeks as my level was 23. At one stage it was just anxiety... now I'm beginning to feel depressed. Thanks.

Sorry you feel this way. Maybe go back to your GP?

I take 40mg of propanalol (not sure of spelling) about 3 times a day for anxiety and it really helps. In fact it's probably changed my life for the better.

Has any counselling or therapy been recommended?

Do you know what's causing it?

I take propranolol too, it's really good for the anxiety symptoms. But mine is much die to a situation which will come to a head shortly then be over. This may not apply to you?

So I was having a laparoscopy a few days ago and my blood pressure was 93/53 before I even had it. I'm also vitamin d deficient and nearly at the end of an 8-week prescription. Would the low blood pressure cause my heart to race?

I would go back to the GP OP, to rule out underlying medical conditions but anxiety can cause these symptoms but also because there are plenty of options for help with this and you need not suffer. Have you asked the GP for treatment for anxiety and depression? CBT is an option or there are several medications you could try if you were interested in that route. I assume blood tests have been done if you know your vit d is low and come back fine?

I find distraction helpful, though it's easier said than done, and it sounds glib but stop overthinking your heart rate and BP, they change all the time and they'd not have operated for your laparoscopic surgery if they were at all concerned. You'll also have had your vitals checked at your pre-OP assessment so any issue would have been flagged and checked before you were signed off for surgery.

Have you any idea what do anything could be causing the anxiety and low mood?

While waiting for an appt with the GP I'd recommend googling breathing exercises for anxiety, exercising gently where possible, keeping busy and even small things like- I just bought an aroma diffuser which I put lavender oil in pre- bed, which helps me relax, and makes a lovely soothing noise. I appreciate that may be zero help to someone else but I've found mine a small distraction of an evening.

Thanks for your reply. I think my body has just got used to being like this as it developed a few years ago when I had a stressful event but everything is fine now but yet I can't shake this tense, anxious feeling. I did mention it to doc when I got bloods taken... she thought vit d supplements might help, but although I feel less tired, no change in anxiety. I will go back to her as this is taking a toll on my quality of life... I constantly feel on edge, never relaxed. I think medication might be required for a while at least.
