How easy is it to get temping work?

NC for this!

Does anyone have experience of how hard/easy it is to get temp work?

I am looking for a permanent full-time job but for various reasons I want (need!) to leave my current part-time job in the meantime, as it's restricting my job hunting and income.

I have had two professional careers: in media and also in education. I have a multitude of skills Smile

I need to earn £9-10 an hour until I find something full-time.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Watching with interest OP Grin I'm looking for temp work too, it at least will be in a few weeks.

Well dressed, polite, some experience, typing ability, answer the phone the second the agency calls, happy to travel for work, happy to take on all sorts of placements - easy.

Unwashed, no CV, computer phobic, swearing, no ability to travel, refusing placements.. you get the picture!

LOL @Preggosaurus9! I last temped in 1998 and found it easy then, as I was your first description! Hopefully still am!

Good luck @Otterses

I’m temping at the moment and I’ve found its feast or famine - literally worked off my feet being offered multiple placements, or nothing at all.

As pp said, friendly and well turned out, flexible and can do attitude will get you far.

Good luck!

@Theninjawhinger thanks, that's interesting to know!

I temped when I left uni but that was 2004 and I know the market has changed since then.

Get registered with the main agencies (office angels, hays, manpower etc) and go from there. I did it for a year and the longest
Place I had was 14 weeks.

I enjoyed it when I did it, if you hated a place that was fine because you were only there 5 days and if you liked it then there was always potential to be offered a perm role which happened to me a few times
