I'm wondering just how waterproof they're likely to be as myself and dd1 both need a waterproof jacket for our upcoming residential.

It's the one in the picture.

Check the hydrostatic head rating. Anything less than 5000 will be showerproof at best but not waterproof.

@Whynham that's really useful to know! Thanks very much :)

I have one, so far it’s been waterproof. They are made of a very plasticy material as opposed to treated fabric.

They don’t keep you warm at all though so you will want a fleece etc underneath

Dd has one, packs down nicely to keep in her school bag. So far it's been reasonably waterproof, although if you are out for long in a heavy downpour I would expect leeks. Like all coats of that sort, it's not breathable so you do end up quite sweaty on a hot day.

I'd prefer a more substantial waterproof, but then I do a lot of outdoor stuff that means I'm out in the rain often for hours at a time. For a short time and assuming I've got dry clothes to change into I'd be happy with something similar.

That's really helpful!

My son has one. He wears it over his blazer if it’s raining. The walk to school is 40 minutes each way and it’s kept him dry so far.

Can I just op if it’s not too late but get a longer one then you can sit down and not get a wet bum.

lucysmam · 31/03/2019 10:59

@MrsPear that's a good point, I'm not sure how much sitting down I'll be doing mind you with 13 Guides to supervise :)

@BornInAThunderstorm we're away at the very end of May so I'm hoping it'll be quite warm by then. I am taking my hoody though, just in case it's not.

@gigglingHyena any suggestions for something else I could look at? Not too pricey since I need two, though.

My current one is a 15 year old Karrimor, badly in need to reproofing. Not sure I'd recommend it :-)

Something like this would be more breathable. Haven't actually bought this one, but it was one we considered when last bying my daughter a coat.
