50th birthday present

I'm going to be 50 soon & have been asked a couple of times what presents I'd like. I can't really think of anything ! I'm not a big jewellery wearer & I'm not into fancy handbags. I have plenty of perfume. What would you ask for for your 50th ?

I'm a big fan of experiences over stuff but that does make things a bit trickier for people.

I just had my 75th and a weekend with my son and daughter, with a lovely meal was my best present

Happynow001 · 29/03/2019 07:00

Theatre tickets and dinner for two.

I've been asked the same, and truly don't know. If I need anything I can afford to buy it, I am gradually decluttering so don't want ”stuff”, I rarely wear jewellery, I don't drink alcoholic drinks so the default bottle of fizz isn't applicable...

I'm going on the super fast zip wire in Wales.

gillys · 29/03/2019 08:51

To be fair we have booked a rather nice holiday a bit later in the year which is mostly my present but dh & dd want to get me some stuff to open on the day. we'll also be having a nice meal out in the evening.

Nice chocolates and some champagne then. Something you like to consume normally, but a posh version of.

skippy67 · 29/03/2019 09:08

Netball trainers.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 29/03/2019 09:10

A painting or print or other piece of art/craft that you love. A subscription to something you enjoy but wouldn't treat yourself to (for me it would be one of those monthly book subscriptions or gin, but there are so many different ones now). A photo book for all those wonderful pictures you have on your iPad but never get around to printing. A day learning a new craft like stained glass or jewellery making where you end up with the bangle or pendant you made to your own design.

Bloodybridget · 29/03/2019 09:12

Lovely new bed linen or pyjamas or dressing gown. Very fancy slippers, what are those super expensive ones called? A piece of art. A beautiful dish (for food or simply decorative). A kitchen gadget if you want something, or a good hairdryer (just throwing out ideas).

Gazelda · 29/03/2019 09:15

I received a beautiful Cross pen for my 50th. It's in a fabulous soft leather case and I smile every time I use it. No one else is allowed to use it!
I'd have loved a fancy coffee machine, or some seating for the garden. Or a spa day. Or beautiful simple stud earrings.

ChinUpChestOut · 29/03/2019 11:47

My best friend bought me an Hermes scarf. I love it. I'd never have bought it myself, I've worn it often and it always takes an ordinary smart casual look and elevates it. I also think I look very French and chic when I wear it Grin

I would also loved to have a go on that zip wire in Wales that was mentioned upthread. Or some other kind of experience as I also don't really want more 'stuff'. You could also ask for a photo session so that you could have a great family photo taken.

BlueMerchant · 29/03/2019 11:53

Good stuff for the holiday you are looking forward to.
Nice sunglasses
Sun hat
Lovely sarong
New bag
Some vouchers for your holiday wardrobe?
( Im presuming it's somewhere hotSmile)

I chose a charity that was special to me and told people that if they wanted to give something then please could they make a donation to that charity. Some people told me how much they had given, others just told me they had made a donation. I was thrilled - it was the most fantastic feeling.

cannycat20 · 29/03/2019 17:00

We did this a few years ago where I worked for a colleague who turned 60 - between us we filled a shopping trolley (part of the present) with 60 little things he really liked - his favourite wine, some chilli seeds, some really good chocolate, a CD of his favourite group - could you ask your family to do something like that for you? Or your favourite photos from over the years, or their favourite photos of you, in a nice album, with an mp3 player of your favourite songs downloaded on to it, or interesting newspaper cuttings from the year you were born, or DVDs of films released that year?

Or go with the charity option and ask them just to get you a token present, or to make you an absolutely fabulous cake or something?

Mememeplease · 29/03/2019 17:11

Experiences all the way with me.

Belindabelle · 29/03/2019 17:47

I am fifty this year and think I am going for a watch.

That’s a great present. I’d be more than happy with that.

Usually unpopular on MN but what about a spa break? Or afternoon tea somewhere nice?

Voucher for a beauty salon.
