Help - son requested a day in countryside near Newcastle!

Ds is off school tomorrow and wants a day out (ideal as we can’t afford to go away this Easter)

His criteria are: a day in countryside with nice things to see, somewhere he’s never been before, an adventure!

We had an amazing day out near Berwick once and I think he wants to recreate this - we looked round a castle, went on a steam train and had cake in a coffee shop.

We used to live tynemouth and have explored a lot over there, am thinking poss the Lake District but where over there would fulfil this criteria? Apart from centerparcs i’ve Never been 😬🙈

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Who remembers lambton lion park

I remember Lambton lion park!
We had a school trip there about 50 years ago ( oh goodness. How the years have flown).
I remember they had a bouncy castle there and one of the boys from my class bounced into me and gave me a bloody nose. Memories!

I do Hollowvictory do you remember the old plane you could go on? Great junior school day out.

Cragside and Wallington are both lovely if you are a National Trust member. Hamsterley Forest is fab too.

I LOVE these suggestions, thank you so much - we are going to work our way through them this Easter holls.

Sadly for us the adventure this time has had to be postponed as DS was up loads in the night with man flu. He’s curled up on the sofa feeling sorry for himself now Sad

Ps I remember the plane at Saltwell Park!

@Hollowvictory and @Disfordarkchocolate I have a memory of Lambton Lion Park that no one else remembers. I can remember looking through circular windows to see a display of a very large Lambton Worm curled round a hill. I'm beginning to think I made it up!

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/03/2019 14:14

That sounds familiar TattiePants but I can't remember where I saw it. We used to sing a song about the Lambton worm when I was at school.

Beamish?

Sleephead1 · 29/03/2019 14:19

what about Gibside? it has huge park , low ropes challenge, walled garden , cafe a nature play scape and the old stables, If you want a beach walk Alnmouth is gorgeous and you can go to Warkworth aswell

Hollowvictory · 29/03/2019 14:19

Yes that was in the indoor section at lambton lion Park. It was designed to look like a castle and when inside you peeped through holes to look at stuff. Weirdly I don't remember the lions only the plane and the indoor bit

TattiePants · 29/03/2019 14:35

Thank you, I'm not going mad! Hollow, that's what I remember, peeping through the holes. I don't remember the animals either but I was only 5 when it closed.

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/03/2019 14:50

I remember being stuck on the bus after a school trip to Lambton Lion Park because they had lost a monkey and needed to check it hadn't stowed away anywhere.

Theninjawhinger ah no, hope he's on the mend soon 🤒
