The next step after the Porn Block, Mumsnet?

BorneBackCeaselesslyIntoThePas · 28/03/2019 18:31

“Politicians love power and the porn block, if it’s presented as a success, might well become the first step towards a more sinister development: increased regulation of the internet. This weekend, the Mail on Sunday reported that ministers were drawing up plans for a powerful new regulator — ‘Ofweb’ — to fine social media giants for failing to remove ‘harmful’ content. Experts believe these new rules will apply to popular forums such as Mumsnet and TripAdvisor too.”

You think mumsnetters did this?

Lol

It was the government. Most threads on here have been against the government proposals.

HTH

MenuPlant · 28/03/2019 18:35

Are you also posting on TripAdvisor about this :D

MenuPlant · 28/03/2019 18:37

And why not post on chat or somewhere?
Why have you put this in feminism?

Certain Internet content has been blocked in the uk for many years now.

BorneBackCeaselesslyIntoThePas · 28/03/2019 18:40

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 28/03/2019 18:40

How will this change what is already in place?

The proposal seems to suggest Mumsnet could be fined for user posts, that’s new (I think) and May mean much firmer moderation

Hi, we've moved this over to Chat as requested.

Justhadathought · 28/03/2019 18:45

One thing I have learned over this last week is that men really don't want to have to be responsible for the content they view. A ban has not been suggested at all - just that people register.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 28/03/2019 18:49

You think MPs will vote for and pass a porn block?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It's not new, not many posts here break laws, a few times that Legal action is taken they take down the posts and pass on information they have (which isn't a lot).

Don't break CURRENT laws. How about if those laws change, so that anything considered 'offensive' by the same people who decide what counts as offensive in terms of porn is suddenly illegal. When hosts like mum's net is held responsible because your diet tip is deemed fat shaming or encouraging annorexia?
Perhaps I'm being ridiculous; but between this and the copywrite stuff, the gov'ts are moving in on what you can say or view on the web.

Don't get me wrong, i agree with you.

Hopefully From a different place than the antisemitic Guardian of far more recent years.
