New patio! Cost effective materials?

Our patio is falling apart, all the 'municipal' square concrete pavers are beginning to tilt.

I had assumed I could get them taken up, ground levelled, then reinstated, but taking up a corner one reveals that there are great clods of concrete stuck to the bottom!

So, a new patio. What would you do? Repave? Stone? Herringbone brick? Stamped concrete?

Are there big cost differences?

Just knock the concrete off if you want to reuse it, we bought a second hand patio off ebay and did this. Went down lovely and cost a tiny fraction of the price.

Yes, concrete will knock off easily. Jet wash then in situ first though.

Thanks both- how do you knock it off?? I was imagining needing a tool like this and a Big Hammer! Of course, I can't be sure whether the bit I took up, being the edge, had a 'dam' of concrete/hardcore evident, and the rest might just be laid on sand.

I was all for something more decorative, but, truth is, laid pavers is just fine. Will want someone who can cut curves in some of the edges so it's a bit less municipal!

Yeah, a tool like that would do it.. That picture is nice though.
