Hi I’ve got an interview tomorrow which they only called me this afternoon to say I’ve got. It’s for a nursery class TA.
I have to write a long observation of a child. How do I do that?
Read a story and ask relevant questions (what should I ask?) and also supervise and support a group of children in an activity of my choice to develop their communication and language skills.
It’s for 3-4 year olds and I have no experience with this age group!
Can anyone help me with ideas and/or pointers? Only got the call an hour or so ago. Thank you

What can you see in the pictures? Can you spot X and Y and Z? Who is the story about?
Writing a long observation means playing with a child doing an activity, and then writing up important things they say ‘Josh built a tower using alternating red and blue bricks. He said, I’m building a rocket to the moon. I asked, what will happen when you get to the moon and he replied, the aliens will eat me up.’ Type thing. But longer.

@lilyboleyn thank you that’s helpful. I’ve googled an activity which I’ve managed to sort and I’ve got a book to read so I’ll think of some questions. Can’t really practise the long observation but I’ll give it my best shot.

Try watching some videos on YouTube. There tends to be some exemplary practice stuff on there.
