Loaf, MADE etc sofas

So, after having a gifted secondhand leather monstrosity of a sofa for 10 years DH and I are about to embark on purchasing our first actual sofa that we've chosen.

We're currently redecorating our living room and I'm loving the design aesthetic of the sofas from places like MADE, Loaf etc and would be happy to up to a slightly higher bracket of these for the right one.

DH however thinks we should just go to DFS because it's closer and get something with the 0% finance and 20-year warranty.

The other places have showrooms but he said "what's the point of going all that way when there's perfectly good sofas at scs, dfs etc".

I have been open minded but I really haven't found a style or colour that I like.

We'll have the sofa for a long time (he said he won't ever buy another one Hmm) and I'm just getting pulled in by Instagram-style stuff.

Can anybody comment on the quality and comfort of the aforementioned loaf, made etc?

He will fold to me but I need to make a damned good case to get him to the further away showrooms in the first instance.

Hi.
I can’t comment on Loaf but have a MADE bed and it’s the best piece of furniture I own. Quality is great and looks great in the room.
I am eyeing up wardrobes. They have the style and size I would like but colour is not quite what I was after otherwise I would have bought them already.
DFS sofa in lounge is ok but not a patch on our bed.
I didn’t go to a showroom either - bit of a gamble I know, I would like to go to one of theirs.

Palominoo · 28/03/2019 11:03

Dfs sell finance plans, their sofas are secondary.

Loaf are excellent.

Shoxfordian · 28/03/2019 11:12

If you buy a better quality sofa then it'll last much longer.

We're buying one too later this year, have a look at Arlo & Jacob as well

Had a Made sofa and armchair - had covered them for their look for ages. Got them and they were SO uncomfortable, legs castors kept breaking and covers genuinely couldn’t be washed in any way apart from dabbing with damp cloths. Really impractical!

We went to sofa.com and bought the perfect sofa - looks good, really comfy and covers can go in washing machine Grin

LikeSilentRaindrops · 28/03/2019 11:15

*coveted them, even.

Forgot to say - made.com customer service also quite poor

Harumphharagh · 28/03/2019 11:17

Sofa.com!

Ftumch · 28/03/2019 11:17

We have a Loaf showroom near us so we went to have a look, they are super comfy but very low and the showroom had only been open 6 months and all the sofas looks pretty knackered already. So I wouldn't recommend them!

Ftumch · 28/03/2019 11:19

Mark's and Spencer Sofas are good, my parents have 2 that are 20 years old and they look maybe a couple of years old? John Lewis are good too.

Schoeny · 28/03/2019 11:30

You could try sofas & stuff, if you have a showroom anywhere near you. They will upholster your chosen sofa in pretty much any fabric - they have a huge (almost too huge!) array of fabric sample books to look through.

And they did interest free credit for ours, too.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 28/03/2019 11:33

I've got a Made corner sofa bed and it's lovely. Really comfortable, well made and looks so nice.

I bought another Made sofa bed for my son's bedroom and while it's comfortable for occasional use as a guest bed it is the most uncomfortable sofa I've ever known.

I'm looking at one that's called Ritchie for my dining room but I'm reluctant to order it until I see some reviews about comfort.

cheesenpickles · 28/03/2019 11:41

@Schoeny sofas and stuff look excellent! And there's a showroom right by us

Hi OP, we are really pleased with our sofas & chairs from them, and found their customer service really good too.

They are a bit on the expensive side, but they do seem to have reasonably regular 15/20% offers, so it might be worth holding out for one of them.

(I don't work for them, honestly - we just stumbled across them as they had a showroom very near to DFIL's house!)

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 28/03/2019 11:58

I’ve had a DFS sofa. We had it for a couple of years, well before we’d paid it off the slats on the sofa and on the matching chair had collapsed.

On the other hand, we have Next sofa and sofa bed which after 8 years have sagged somewhat but are still comfy.

Needallthesleep · 28/03/2019 12:01

We have had two Loaf sofas for two years now. I find the quality and customer service really good with them. Though we have the atticus and honestly it’s just too much cushion and always looks a bit dishevelled. The other one we have (can’t remember the name of it) looks a lot better. So use them but don’t get the atticus!

Fortysix · 28/03/2019 12:07

Another one here looking to update. Current sofa dates back to 1986 so I will cry when it leaves. I’m thinking that buying a sofa at £1000 that lasts five years might be the way forward and then buying another in 2025 rather than spending £2k on one to last forever ... was considering Ikea. Have visited Loaf. Found there styles not amazing if you are short of leg length as cushions very deep. Anyone had a Next sofa recently?

Fortysix · 28/03/2019 12:08

Their

ladypete · 28/03/2019 12:18

I absolutely love my made.com sofa.

CottonSock · 28/03/2019 12:19

My sofa from sofa sofa still looks new 12 years on. Made in uk

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 28/03/2019 12:36

Oh god. Please don't cave and go to DFS - we had an actually quite expensive corner leather sofa from them a while back. It lasted 3 years before it was unfixably saggy and uncomfortable to sit on. It had to come into the house via a window in piece at extra cost, but no way was I paying for it to go back out again, so we chopped it up in the lounge instead. It was only then that we discovered the back was made of cardboard. Actual cardboard.

I don't say this advocating spending a lot on sofas, BTW - the DFS one cost more than twice what we replaced it with. They came from Nabru, and I am very, very happy with them.

KondoKonvert · 28/03/2019 12:38

Sofa.com has showrooms and their stuff is lovely!

Ohyesiam · 28/03/2019 12:42

Sofa workshop do 0% credit, and some lovely designs with a long warranty. I’m lying on imone now!
It’s £15 a month for years, but it feels like it’s free because I’d never notice it leaving my account.

bilbodog · 28/03/2019 12:43

Ive got a tetrad sofa - i think you can get them ay john lewis and furniture village.

Maphe · 28/03/2019 12:50

Like pps, I think Made has gone downhill. Really poor quality sofa, nothing but problems with delivery and non-existent customer service. I wouldn't buy from them again.

MsShopper · 28/03/2019 13:02

A relative of mine spent thousands on three Loaf sofas and they are pretty much the most uncomfortable sofas you can imagine. They look beautiful but you sink into the seat cushions and they just stay that way: squished with all the air out of them. Not sure if that's what they're supposed to do, but my bum is not a fan!

I do, however, rate Next sofas. Ours still look, and feel, great 5 years later.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 28/03/2019 13:15

We have two Richie chairs from Made. They’re pretty much used as occasional chairs in the living room, because we have a couple of sofas too. We have a bay window, so they sit there. We used them more frequently when we were waiting for new sofas to be delivered and I would say that they’re fine as occasional, but I wouldn’t rely on them as my only form of seating. Look good though. You can’t remove the covers, so would have to spit clean.
