I’m not keen on the rhubarb and custard ones and we have tried a variety of hot cross buns

GetSchwifty · 28/03/2019 16:17

The Waitrose chocolate orange ones are so addictive. One is never enough!

Mmmhmmokdear · 28/03/2019 16:22

I didn't recommend them but I absolutely love them!! The tesco orange & cranberry ones are nice too.

Vinorosso74 · 28/03/2019 16:26

I tend to like the traditional ones but got the Sainsburys in-store bakery caramel and chocolate last week and to quite DD "they were delish".

Rockbird · 28/03/2019 17:46

No sign of R&C HCBs in my Aldi so I got some brioche ones instead. And some Chunky bars. It's going to be a good night...

ScarletBitch · 28/03/2019 17:49

This thread sounds dreamy, I have never seen a Rhubarb and Custard one or Choc Orange one!

YouBumder · 28/03/2019 17:51

Oh I just like the original ones best! Husband got brioche ones the other day and I wasn’t happy 😥

TonTonMacoute · 28/03/2019 18:01

They sound absolutely vile Confused

mendandmakedo · 28/03/2019 18:27

The Rubarb and custard ones were half price in my aldi recently I bought 4 packs. They are indeed very sweet and very tasty.

ForalltheSaints · 28/03/2019 19:46

It is almost three weeks until Easter! Can't you wait?

I'm surprised it took this long for the hot cross bun/mince pie police to arrive.

Dannywhizbang · 28/03/2019 19:58

I've tried many flavours and R&C is my favourite by a country mile. Real bits of custard going all warm and gooey in the toaster and real Rhubarb too. Outstanding!
Anyone know how long they will be available in Aldi? I assumed til easter but my local one only had a few packs left last week.

Justonedayatatime11 · 28/03/2019 20:01

Anyone prepared to post me some?! I've traveled all the local Aldi today and can't find any Sad

ScarlettDarling · 28/03/2019 20:06

Just seen a few other posters recommending the Sainsbury's chocolate and caramel hcbs...I'm averaging a pack every two days but they haven't had any in stock since the weekend. Getting seriously panicked that they've stopped doing them.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/03/2019 20:19

I haven't eaten any HCB yet but I will remedy this .

I'm not a huge fan, but I want bog-standard , no deviations buns .
Toasted , no butter , just some lemon curd

IggyAce · 28/03/2019 20:24

I tried them and wasnt impressed. Will be popping to M&S to try some of theirs.

Mumberjack · 28/03/2019 20:31

The aldi ones are good but are amazing with salted butter on, perfect mixture of salty and sweet

Floralnomad · 28/03/2019 20:31

The Tesco raspberry and white chocolate ones are the favourite in our house .

onedayallthiswillbeyours · 28/03/2019 20:32

I made a special trip to Aldi for the rhubarb & custard HCBs off the back of the last thread. They were everything I had dreamed they would be and more! Went back today and sadly none in sight, just berry ones and apple & cinnamon ones (I think). I am sadly ruined now and no other HCBs will do.

VelociraptorRex · 28/03/2019 20:32

Uuurrrggghh I usually hate fancy wanky flavours of hot cross buns, but rhubarb and custard sounds like. I thing I have experienced before... not adding to shopping list honest

Mumberjack · 28/03/2019 20:34

For those who say it’s too soon for hot cross buns, the crosses of the aldi ones were all off kilter, they looked more like Scandinavian flags. I ate them as a pro Europe statement Grin

VelociraptorRex · 28/03/2019 20:38

It's never too early for HCBs. Tried to make them once. Won't make that stupid mistake in a hurry again...

Thisismydilemma · 28/03/2019 20:43

I have a pack of rhubard and custard HCBs in the freezer. I hope they will still taste as good when defrosted.

EugenesAxe · 28/03/2019 20:44

Bit off topic, but assuming you are rhubarb fans this recipe has been mildly life changing for me:

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/03/2019 11:50

I bought some Tesco bakery ones (the smell drew me there)

I think they're more basic and doughy , but they'll be nice toasted .
