Can anyone talk to me about antidepressants?

So, life is pretty tough right now, for a variety of reasons.

I’m not sure I’m clinically depressed, but I am sleep-deprived, overwhelmed, anxious and irritable. And I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.

A lot of what is wrong I can’t change. And I’m too daunted to even think about how to change the things I can.

Would ADs help me?

Best to discuss with GP, IME ADs may help.

Hopeful bump.

I would definitely talk to your GP ASAP. Some antidepressants can make you feel worse for a couple of weeks before you start to feel better. I took them for 8 years. They did help me through a very tough period but I ultimately had to make some changes in my life to get better, but couldn’t have done it without antidepressants. Please get some help, it will get better, nothing is permanent xx

You need to see a doctor. People on the internet can’t make that call for you from a few lines on a website.
Even if they aren’t the way forward for you (and talking therapies are often better) then talking to your GP will help you with working that out.
I am sorry. Depression is shit x

It's a hard one, but you can almost guarantee that your doctor will chuck the anti depressants at you. The problem with that is that it's not getting to the root of your problems...it's just sticking a plaster over it. Sometimes, you got to drop a few balls when you're juggling too many. It's about addressing your needs, and actioning them. It may sound like pie in the sky to most people, but meditation works wonders for the mind, anxiety and depression. Perhaps discuss with your doctor alternative methods of dealing with your depression other than medication.

AD's work, but only in combination with CBH therapy. Speak to your GP but make sure you get therapy offered too.
