Dd almost 12 her bike is in the shed taking up loads of space she’s hardly ever used it
I think tbh she can’t be bothered to get it out n put it back again
And I’m minded to selling it or getting rid of it
But then I feel bad for her

My eldest DD hardly ever uses hers, but I do find the summer sees a bit more use and I think it is worth keeping for that alone. However, my DD is only 8, yours is 12 and there might be a big difference in hobbies at that age. Have you asked her what she thinks of you selling it?

I think, depending on location, 12-16 is an age where bikes can come into their own. They are older, so more independent, have a wider spread of friends, but can't drive.
Whereas my 19yo's bike on the other hand...

Shall speak to her about it tonight

Why doesn't she use it? If she's not confident, maybe some lessons?
How does she get to school/activities/friends houses?
Do you go out as a family? Do you let her go out with her friends?

Lardlizard · 28/03/2019 09:15

She walks
Course we go out as z family although not on bikes
And we do let her out

Same here - school is too far for cycling everywhere else they go is either within a mile (takes longer to cycle than walk by the time you've sorted locks, helmets) or over 10 miles.

My 12 year old uses his bike to visit friends, to go for bike rides with friends, sometimes to get to school and occasionally for family bike rides. Oh yeah and he likes to take it when we go away in our caravan. So at least once a week, normally more (we are a bikey family and cycling is pretty safe around here).

I don’t know, would you like her to cycle more? Is it safe? Does she need more encouragement or are you happy for her not to do it?

Easy enough to store lock, helmet, gloves, mini tool kit, water bottle all in the same place though. And making it easy to access is a big thing. Also having friends with bikes.
