Alcohol & General Anaesthetic

I’m having my coil removed under GA tomorrow. Following all the usual instructions but never really thought about booze. I’ve had over half a bottle of rose today but last had some at about 4pm. That’ll be fine, won’t it?

You'll have to tell them and let the anaesthetist decide whether it's safe or not. You can't fuck around with that sort of thing.

Seconded - even if you're worried that it'll mean the operation is cancelled, it's not worth the risk. Tell them - the anaesthetist will know whether or not it's a concern. They didn't include anything about alcohol on my instructions when I had a GA a few weeks ago (well, they told me not to drink AFTER it), which makes me think it might be ok, but you can't rely on that - it's so, so not worth the risk of it causing a problem

Tell them but it won't be a problem.
I have seen many many drunk people put under general anaesthetics

No that I'm insinuating you are drunk now it will be tomorrow morning (sorry) Blush

I'm not sure that logic follows. If you have a terrible accident straight after a meal no one is going to delay a necessary operation because you've eaten, but they still won't operate on you if you turn up at the hospital the day of a planned operation and announce you've just had a fry-up.

All absolutely fine but I haven’t been told not to drink alcohol tonight. Would prob only have a glass anyway 🍷
