How to get out of a room if the door handle breaks off?

Do you need to have tools with you? If so, what tools?

I don't mind popping round and sliding some flat food under the door - pancakes, pizzas (not deep pan, obvs), pittas, wraps...but you'd have to roll them yourself.

Lettuce and sliced ham, chicken, cheese?

Then hold the wrap near the gap and you can squirt some mayonnaise into it.

You just stay there till you die. Like the Sims

The bathroom I was locked in had a door which wouldn’t accommodate even wafer thin ham (ant’ny).
Best thing about my ‘lock in’ in the dark was it revealed a lot about the two friends outside the door. One said ‘we need to call the fire service and we should say there’s no light ( there was no window) and she’s gone quiet’. The other kept saying ‘we can’t lie to the fire service’. After about 39 mins I was veering towards the liensituation but managed to gouge out the whole lock. Happy days ! Grin

this happened to me when my living room handle just refused to budge one day. i ended up climbing out the living room window in the end 😂

Hi everyone, thanks for all your helpful suggestions. It didn't happen but it recently happened to someone I knew so just wanted to be prepared just in case (hence the question about what tools etc) I should have made it clear I'm not trapped lol :) thanks everyone.

It happened to us once when we were in the lounge. Luckily dd was small enough to get out of the window and big enough to open the front door.

when the shaft stops turning the mechanism that draws back the catch, get some stiff plastic (that stuff that comes rouund knives and chisels etc) and slip it into the gap between the door and doorstop. it is bendy enough to bend round the corner but stiff enoug to push the catch out of the way.

when I was in lodgings, wekept a butter knife in the bathroom to let us out.

Now distributing butter knives/screwdrivers/plastic flanges in various rooms.
