Where to advertise for mothers help type childcare

Where would you advertise for this ? I am looking for someone to help me at home a couple of late afternoons a week. Not a nanny, not really babysitting, and not childminding.

I'm loathed to use nanny agency as their fees are horrendous.

Local fb pages seem to attract all sorts of odd balls quite honestly, though maybe this is the route..

Do you have a University near you ?
Even better if it is a Teacher training college or runs BTEC childcare or NVQ courses ?
Student noticeboards.

Or what networks do you have ? Colleagues, neighbours, friends, Church community, sports team, hobby etc ? Ask people if they know of anyone - a personal recommendation is always better than a 'cold' advertisement.

Childcare.co.uk is a site parents can advertise and search for different types of childcare.

I agree with poster above - look for local colleges / 6th forms that offer childcare qualifications and get in touch asking them to recommend some students. This is ideal as they can help out after school and get some experience and money, plus you can get a helper who is already part qualified and will be very keen for a good reference!

In the school playground to see if there are any mums looking for part time work?

What about initially asking about local cleaners (not agencies) and meeting them to see how flexible they are in their approach to what you need doing?
My dsis is a cleaner and from what she tells me does all sorts depending on her clients' needs e.g shopping or ironing and putting clothes away.

Where are you based? I know you said you didn't want to use an agency but usually their prices are dependent on the nanny's wage, so if you are only looking for a few hours/ days per week, this would be reflected in the fee. They also sort out all the oddballs so you don't have to.

Job websites? Indeed?

I'd say childcare.co.uk is the biggest hub, or I would ask for recommendations for specific people on local community or parenting Facebook groups. People are always getting/giving nanny recs on mine

SoHotADragonRetired · 27/03/2019 11:51

Oh and childcare.co.uk does have a "mother's help" category I believe, and that's definitely what you're describing - helping with kids and light housework in your presence. You could also try nannyjob.co.uk

Trainee teachers and students of childcare will be in placements.
