Hello. After some advice on where to holiday with a 9 month old. Want to go for 4 nights somewhere that’ll be nice and warm but dreading the flight!! Is it as bad as people make out? My partner can’t understand why I’d do it.

A holiday is a bit of a mission with a baby just because of how much stuff you need to take, I’d therefore recommend a week away instead of just 4 days. Our first holiday was when baby was 5 months old. The plane is fine but make sure you feed during take off and landing to stop their ears popping. Take a few new toys with you to keep baby occupied during the flight. We did evening flights each time which coincided with DS bed time which worked well. We bought things like nappies when we were out there, remember they have babies abroad too so you should be able to find anything you need if you forget anything.

Why not a carvan place to start off with? Still have lots of activities but have the comforts of home?

Thank you will take the new toys for the plane if we do! I would definitely rather go for a week but unfortunately I’ve only got 5 days

We went to the following in dd's first year: Morocco (8 weeks), Paris (12 weeks), center parcs UK (4 months), Barcelona (6 months), Ibiza (10 months). It wasn't bad at all. The bigger she got the more she wanted to move but it was fine. She slept on the flight and it was great. I would have gone away more if could have afforded it!

Tips: you can take formula and baby food on the plane as well as a baby bag. Give baby dummy/boob/bottle for take off and landing as it helps ears popping. Take non noisy toys for the plane. Teething necklaces are good too.

I have to be honest and say that’s my least favourite age to travel with! DD wanted to crawl up and the down the plane, she struggled to sleep on us and nothing held her attention for more than a minute at a time. Up to about 7 months was a breeze and once she turned 1 and could watch an iPad with earphones it became easy again. Ultimately it’s worth though, you’ll have a great time away and if it’s a short flight then if it’s bad, who cares, it will be over quickly!
