what's it like working in the NHS in admin?

I've always worked in admin but mainly in the voluntary sector and working in a hospital/ clinical setting really interests me. However, I read a lot on here how working for the NHS is so stressful etc and wondered what its like for admin staff.

Also what's the best way to get in? There's a few band 2 posts working on wards. Is career progression good? What can I do from there?

TIA

Im a PA, and have held various admin roles in my 18 years in the NHS. We are crying out for decent admin staff. We are struggling to recruit so i can only advise you to take the plunge. Even with all the negative media about the NHS at the moment, i can tell you I love my job, there are so many development opportunities too. Go for it!

Don’t start as band 2 if you’ve got a lot of experience. It’s shit money and you’ll probably do just as much as someone on band 4 or 5. Go for it, maybe aim for home working.
